**Graduate Teaching Assistant Position

**North London - Borough of Haringey

**September 2015 Start Date

**Degree Level Position

**Full-time to July 2016

**GBP65 per school day

Academics are recruiting on behalf of an excellent secondary school based in the North London Borough of Haringey. Behaviour is outstanding and KS3 and KS4 attainment is of an extremely high standard. They are looking for a graduate to join them as a teaching assistant from September 2015 until the end of the academic year. Ideal applicants will be degree holders who are looking to become teachers in the near future.

The Position

In your new teaching assistant post you will be supporting pupils with additional learning requirements in the classroom. The school also has a provision unit where pupils are supported outside of the classroom to ensure maximum focus is achieved. The pupils you will support will have additional requirements such as ASD, dyslexia and other related learning difficulties. Each pupil will have an IEP (individual education plan) which will have been set by the SENCo and the pupil to ensure they are on course to achieve their academic targets. You will be helping your pupils to work as best they can to the IEP that has been set for them.

Qualifications and Experience

The school is looking for a graduate teaching assistant, so candidates applying for the role must have a degree. This is essential as the school will only be looking to see applicants who are eligible for teacher training the following academic year. As for your experience, you must have had some experience of working with children in an educational setting. Ideal experience will be work such as teaching assistant (paid or voluntary), tutoring or SEN support. Experience of working with pupils with SEN/additional learning requirements will of course be extremely desirable.

The School

The school you will be joining is of an average size in terms of pupils on roll and there is a slightly higher than average percentage of pupils who speak English as an additional language. Attainment at GCSE and A-Level is extremely high and behaviour is of a tremendous standard. The head has performed excellently over the past four years and the senior management of the school has been rewarded with excellent pupil results. Excellent candidates may also have the opportunity to train as a secondary teacher at the end of the academic year as the school operates a Schools Direct placement program.

Application

Applicants should respond with an update to date CV that is focussed towards working as a teaching assistant. Your CV should demonstrate an aptitude for this position and should be building towards a career as a secondary school teacher.
