Description:
In addition to being a leading name in the UK transportation industry, Thales also provides software solutions offering travellers everything from train updates on the move to real-time motorway traffic information. Software teams in our Transportation business are therefore behind a must-have travel app as well as integrated communications systems on underground rail networks and, increasingly, a variety of web projects.
Our software team in Cheadle is growing. And as part of it you'll develop your abilities in a supportive environment that will stretch your programming, testing and design expertise. Whatever your level, you will have the opportunity to develop quality software across a range of projects, operating systems and development environments.
Key responsibilities
• Coding, testing and configuring fully integrated software solutions that meet client needs and our own high standards
• Working closely with Software Engineers and Architects to input into the review of functional design specifications, high-level system architecture and interface designs
• Contributing to scrum teams, attending project reviews and ensuring we work to established software engineering processes and methodologies
• Applying your technical expertise to deliver quality, fully compliant software solutions to deadlines and within budget
• Offering your opinion on our skills, technology and working practices, helping to build a best-in-class software development function in partnership with responsive management
• Managing a varied and challenging workload across multiple databases, tools and methodologies
• Supporting, encouraging and sharing knowledge with team members.
Skills, qualifications and experience
• A relevant degree (or equivalent) and a background developing multiple software solutions in an Agile environment
• An exceptional understanding of C# (particularly server-side and data processing), supported by solid design principles
• Practical experience of LINQ, WCF web services and Dependency Injection in Ninject 9 or similar
• Exposure to configuration management and change control
• Genuine and demonstrable creativity tempered by strong organisational skills and a proven ability to deliver under pressure
• An understanding of how to develop and deliver a successful solution as part of a team
• Experience of Wonderware Application Server, Historian, InTouch and Toolkits, plus Ruby/Rake build scripts would also be to your advantage.
