Leading Thales's Signalling Engineering team you'll manage and develop a team of signalling designers and the relationship & communcation with the customers on hugely complex and exciting projects. Working on projects from bid to completion, this role is about driving the team to achieve programme schedules and financial and quality targets as well as company objectives. Ultimately, it's a chance to put your abilities to the test and grow your career on an extraordinarily challenging and high-profile programme of work.

Key responsibilities


• Managing and motivating UK and international signalling design teams to deliver quality engineering solutions on time, to cost targets and in line with customer requirements
• Overseeing the coordination and completion of comprehensive design and technical certification
• Ensuring that all specifications, designs, reports, analysis, code and equipment can be implemented smoothly and that all designs have been rigorously checked before approval
• Implementing change whilst maintaining tight controls on various work packages
• Taking every opportunity to make improvements and encourage innovation
• Making sure that any engineering corrections or risks affecting solution delivery are carried out or mitigated promptly
• Validating the engineering delivery progress and support the progress measurement.


Skills, qualifications and experience

• A relevant engineering qualification (or equivalent), together with chartered status and IRSE membership
• Proven background in managing large and complex engineering projects with significant signalling design requirement from a systems, hardware or signalling background
• Sound knowledge of signalling and control on the UK mainline and London Underground, including infrastructure and systems integration practices
• Outstanding stakeholder and customer management skills
• IRSE Principles Designer Licence 1.1.150D or 1.1.130 and IRSE Senior Engineering Manager 6.8.131/2/3 highly desirable but not critical
• A proven ability to develop innovative, low-risk and practical engineering strategies and implement them to successfully deliver large, complex projects
• Strong analytical and organisational skills supporting effective decision making, robust scheduling and excellent budget management
• A talent for building and maintaining good relationships with staff, peers and managers as well as customers and stakeholders
• A genuine commitment to safety and a thorough understanding of safety assurance within the rail engineering, including a working knowledge of CDM regulations.
