Description:
The technology and systems expertise offered by Thales Transportation powers safe, reliable and efficient services to rail networks the world over. In the UK, we deliver advanced signalling, supervision and control, integrated communications, security and information systems for urban rail in addition to mainline rail and roads. And as we continue to grow our business, we need more talent to join us in making our cities better connected.
Join Thales as a Systems Engineering Consultant and you'll develop your career whilst improving the safety and efficiency of major urban and mainline transport networks. You will have the opportunity to work across a range of our major projects as a trouble shooting specialist across the systems engineering lifecycle. All while driving the successful delivery of immensely challenging and complex rail engineering systems.
Key responsibilities
• Preparing system and subsystem requirement specifications, interface requirements and test requirement documents through rigorous analysis and decomposition modelling
• Putting forward work package estimates and descriptions that balance quality, compliance and cost
• Creating new concepts or modifying existing concepts in line with customer needs and driving updates to processes, standards and relevant tools
• Preparing informative system operational plans and reports, and evaluating and defining operational design limits to support them
• Confidently converting requirements into conceptual designs and preparing associated documentation through expert application of operational analyses, simulation and trade-off studies
• Acting as a credible and knowledgeable point of contact for the projects you are engaged on as well as our customers and the wider engineering community
• Leading a team of Systems Engineers to deliver innovative solutions and robust quality metrics to stretching deadlines.
Skills, experience and qualifications:
• Significant experience in rail systems integration, with particular emphasis on rail operational information systems, control systems and equipment, and performance evaluation, modelling and validation
• Strong project management skills, and the ability to work with a range of stakeholders on complex technical issues
• Knowledge of signalling principles and standards as well as an understanding of interfaces, fringes and interface management and control
• The engineering expertise to address system-wide conflicts and questions, plus the innovative streak needed to resolve new and unusual issues
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative working skills, together with the credibility and confidence to lead and develop a team
• Membership of the IET or IRSE in addition to a relevant degree or equivalent, ideally supported by chartered status
• A proven ability to manage a project through a defined process as well as knowledge of configuration control management and the development lifecycle
• Confidence using a range of IT and system engineering tools and a working knowledge of project plans, engineering safety management and construction, design and management regulations
• A genuine commitment to safety, quality and customer interests.
