Description:
This apprenticeship has been designed to provide a strong understanding of Project Management and Bid Management within Thales UK, working within a number of different UK based business units, including:


• Defence Mission Systems
• Ground Transportation Systems
• Land and Air Systems
• Security and Communications
• Avionics
• Defence and Aerospace

• Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance.

The apprenticeship is a 24 month rotation programme, during which time you will gain experience within a number of different roles, developing a variety of skills and applying the learning from classroom based teaching. At the completion of the programme you will be placed in to a permanent role within the Bids and Project Management (BPM) function. The focus of this role will most likely be Project Planning or Controls, these roles will be determined based on suitability, also taking in to account individual career aspirations.

Thales offices are based in: Manchester (Cheadle), London, Crawley (Gatwick), Basingstoke and Templecombe in Somerset.

This role will be based in Crawley, West Sussex.

The completion of this apprenticeship programme will result in the achievement of a Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship in Project Management. This is a formally recognised qualification and has been designed together with the Association of Project Managers (APM).

The BPM function has been formed to:

• Ensure strong governance over our bids and projects
• Oversee the implementation of consistent and assured BPM processes
• Ensure we have effective control systems to support delivery
• Ensuring adherence to all Chorus 2.0 mandated Gate & Stage Reviews
• Create a strong sense of community within the BPM staff
• Establish the skills footprint and competencies of the B&PM community
• Perform a gap analysis to influence training and career development needs.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

• Assist with the creation and maintenance of the Project Schedule; generate, maintain and monitor the progress of Work Packages; establish the schedule impact of work complete / not complete against project milestones
• Support with updating budgetary information; updating resource information and validating the derived Resource Profiles
• Provide assistance for the provision of governance and support on project schedule generation, structuring and reporting
• Administer and maintain the Project Risk and Opportunity Register
• Provide support in performance measurement and variance reporting
• Provide assistance to the nominated Project Manager and their Team for the extraction and coordination of data for reporting or analysis purposes
• To attend college as required and pass all examinations and continuous learning modules as specified by the course demands.

Desired Skills:

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint is desirable but not essential

• Ability to work with a positive can do attitude
• Intermediate level Excel (basic formula and functions, pivot tables, charting).

Experience:
Relevant work experience is desirable but not essential.

Desired Qualifications:

• 2 A-levels A* - E
• 5 GCSE A* - C, including a minimum of B in Maths and English
