Sybase DBA - Investment Banking

A Global top tier Investment Bank are looking for a Sybase DBA o provide Database Administration and Technical Support, with responsibility for the delivery of reliable, highly available and high performance environments. Install, configure, monitor, upgrade, and troubleshoot all Database Environments and Database based Applications on a global basis.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform Installation, configuration, upgrades and maintenance of Database environments including the related elements of Applications (all Environments - Dev, Test, UAT and Prod)
  • Produce and Maintain Documented Operational Procedures and Diagrams for all Database Environments and related Applications Support
  • Provide support for Developers and Business Users requests and queries
  • Conduct Performance Monitoring/Tuning, and Capacity Monitoring/Planning for all Database Environments
  • Perform the Security Administration Function for all Database environments
  • Ensure that all Database backups are performed successfully
  • Perform regular Database Housekeeping tasks (inc. DBCC, Update Stats, Error Log checking)
  • Produce scripts to perform and automate regular Administration and Housekeeping tasks
  • Liaison with Software Vendors, 3rd Party Suppliers, Business Users and IT Development
  • Ensure that in the event of a fault down time is kept to a minimum
  • Perform and Assist with the Recovery of Systems and Applications at Disaster Recovery tests
  • Be proactive in suggesting how technology can be used to improve/enhance business processes to save costs or provide a competitive edge.
  • Provide cover when other Database Administrators are on holiday or sick.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent Knowledge and experience of Sybase Database Administration in a Production Support Team
  • Experience of working in a Financial Services firm (ideally Investment Banking
  • Excellent knowledge of Sybase (inc. 12.5 and 15.7) running on Solaris/Linux
  • Knowledge of Oracle E-business suite.
  • Good practical knowledge and experience of Database Performance Monitoring
  • Tuning Utilities and Commands [sysmon/MDA/AWR/DMV]
  • Sufficient Solaris/Linux experience to perform the DBA Functions competently
  • Exposure to MS SQL and Oracle
