A Secure Estate in East London which manages Offenders under the age of 25 is looking for an experienced and qualified full time Fitted Interiors Lecturer. (working 37 hours per week)


The purpose of this role is to teach, develop and deliver high quality learner focused education to meet contractual requirements and standards. This post will involve developing lesson plans around curriculum best practice and quality targets, contributing to curriculum development and ensuring the safeguarding of learners.


Ideal candidates will be non-judgmental, patient, flexible, and have the ability to effectively communicate and motivate learners from a variety of backgrounds to engage in education. Their mission is to ‘improve lives and economic success through learning and skills.’


Applicants must hold a teaching qualification (minimum Cert Ed/PGCE) or a subject specialist qualification at degree level/level 5 or equivalent with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within a specified timescale. The post holder must also have relevant teaching experience. Knowledge in Carpentry and Plumbing will be required as this course will assess learners on fitting kitchens.

You would also have experience of teaching young people. Ideally this would have been in a mainstream learning environment or in a secure setting or with disaffected learners.

All appointments are subject to the safeguarding of the welfare of children. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure Barring Service.

The successful Fitted Interiors Lecturer would prepare and deliver classes / activities, as required by the timetable, complete registers, lessons plans and activity records etc. Maintain systems for monitoring and evaluating classroom learning activities to ensure they continue to be effective and worthwhile. Create and maintain trainee record files, ensuring they contain information concerning progress and training outcomes. Perform any other administrative tasks associated with the teaching function, including examination/accreditation entries for classes. Attend staff meetings and liaise with appropriate prison personnel in providing guidance and support to trainees.

You would be required to undertake personal and professional development activities to meet individual and departmental needs and assist other lecturers, where possible, so that knowledge can be shared. Participate in prison procedures, e.g. health and safety, security and behaviour management.
