Support Worker – Residential Care
Highly rewarding opportunities have arisen for Support Workers to provide care and support to adults with learning difficulties and challenging behaviour in the Basingstoke area. You’ll be working 80 hours per fortnight but flexibility will be required as you will have to work evenings, weekends, bank holidays and occasional sleep-ins.
The role
As a Support Worker you will ensure quality care and life experiences to service users based upon the six basic values of privacy, dignity, independence, choice, rights and fulfilment. You will help to provide a therapeutic, supportive, structured and relaxed environment in which service users can develop and enjoy their lives.
Some of your daily responsibilities will include:
• Providing an effective 24-hour service and demonstrating a reasonable degree of flexibility to ensure all shifts are covered with the required staffing levels.
• Providing practical assistance, advice, advocacy and support in order that they might develop their skills and work toward maximising their independence.
• Ensuring that support plans are consistently implemented on a daily basis.
• Maintaining service user confidentiality within the policies and procedures laid down for the service.
• Ensuring service users are treated with respect and their dignity is maintained at all times.
• Creating, and delivering, appropriate leisure opportunities for service users.
• Assisting with practical skill development such as budgeting, shopping, cooking, housework, laundry, health and hygiene etc. as detailed in the support plan.
• Ensuring all housework is completed to a high standard including but not limited to: cleaning, washing and ironing.
What you’ll need
Previous experience is not essential as full training will be provided but you would be required to display evidence of the following:
• Ability to communicate clearly and interact well with people of all levels.
• Domestic and housekeeping skills.
• Recognition of the need for confidentiality.
• Understanding the principles underpinning the delivery of care.
• Ability to record information accurately, objectively and within prescribed timescales.
• Ability to promote independence.
• Experience of forming and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
