Moodle Developer/Systems Support - London 2 months + - GBP250 - 300 per day

A leading light in the higher education sector requires a Moodle Technical Administrator. You will be responsible for the 3rd line support and the delivery, development and operation of Moodle.

You will work closely with the ISD E-learning Environments customer facing Moodle support team to identify and prioritise development requirements and liaise with the ISD Datacenter Services and Database Administration teams who manage the Back End Servers and database to optimise Moodle performance.

You should be able to communicate fluently and present complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Your duties will include:

* 3rd line Moodle technical support (including Back End support). (20%)
* Technical administration of Moodle 2.6 (soon to be upgraded to 2.8) environments (15%)
* Installation, testing and localised modifications of Moodle plugins. (10%)
* Designing, developing, maintaining and documenting customisations and bug fixes to Moodle to satisfy formal requests for system enhancements. (10%)
* Working closely with colleagues to establish business requirements and effective service delivery of Moodle. (10%)
* Duties associated with code quality, standards, documentation and release including version control. (5%)
* Troubleshoot and recommend solutions including optimising performance. (15%)
* Plan and implement regular upgrades of Moodle. (15%)

Essential Experience, Skills and Knowledge:
The successful candidate will be competent in all of the following:

* 2 years professional experience of working with LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) and open source applications.
* Not less than 2 years' experience of Moodle development, installation and configuration.
* Experience of testing, sign off, documentation and change control when rolling out upgrades to applications, gained in a structured environment.
* Excellent troubleshooting, problem management and resolution skills.
* Excellent communication skills (written and oral) and the ability to present complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
* An eye for usability and clean UI deployment.
* A good understanding of accessibility issues.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the specification, development and support of the operation of a new data interface between of Student Records system (SITS) and the E-learning system (Moodle).
