Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner (Learning Disabilities, ASC) BLUP24614
Bolton
Salary; £34,833 per annum
Permanent – up to 40 hours per week. Would consider part time for the right candidate

Our Client provides a range of social care, special education, community support and consultancy services in the North West of England. The charity is one of the North West’s largest providers of residential homes for children from short-term emergency care to long-term placements. Their fostering service provides family placements in the North West and neighbouring regions.

The ‘New Lives’ service presents a new and exciting opportunity for  our Client to expand and further develop its specialist supported living services for individuals with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The new and innovative service in Bolton has been commissioned and designed to ensure that adults with ASC, who have complex support needs and who have experienced multiple barriers to well-being, have improved opportunities to live full and active lives in their communities.

They are now looking to appoint a full time Positive Behaviour Support Practitioner, working a 40 hour week over 5 days. They will consider part time for the right candidate, with the minimum commitment being 3 days per week, which includes Tuesdays.

Within the role, you will be responsible for completing functional analysis and developing intervention plans based on these, whilst developing data collection systems and leading on the routine analysis of data demonstrating individual outcomes.  A key aspect of the role will be working with the support team, to develop their skills in delivering Active Support, and other approaches that promote the development of skills. You will be expected to develop systems to evaluate the outcome of these approaches and also be responsible for implementing interventions in line with ethical standards outlined by the Behaviour Analysis Certification Board, and in line with positive behaviour support principles.

Working collaboratively with other health professionals, including Clinical Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy, you will deliver evidence based interventions that are based on a holistic understanding of the person’s needs, whilst being consistent with the assessed function of any difficult to manage behaviours. The work is likely to involve supporting individuals who may have a history of disrupted attachments, trauma and/or neglect or abuse and you will be required to demonstrate an understanding of the impact of these on individuals and ensure this is reflected in the delivery of the service.

As the successful candidate, you will have a degree in a related discipline such as psychology, and be Board Certified with the Behaviour Analysis Certification Board. With knowledge of current theories and models of practice appropriate to your discipline, you will have an understanding of ASC including Asperger’s Syndrome and the delivery of PBS to individuals with Learning Disabilities and Autism.

Previous experience of working with adults with Learning Disabilities in a range of settings is key, as is experience of functional analysis and support plan implementation. Above all you will have the ability to relate well to parents and carers, coupled with excellent communication skills and a commitment to continuing the development of professional skills.
