Description:
ENABLE Scotland is a dynamic, vibrant and expanding organisation dedicated to improving the lives of people across Scotland.
We are looking for Personal Assistants to work in the Edinburgh area, to provide flexible, personalised support to a lady, with learning disabilities, and a gentleman, with learning disabilities and Autistic Spectrum disorder, within their own home which they share.
This will include supporting the lady to be involved in the local community with which she requires support and encouragement from her support team. She is looking for someone who is patient and confident to take the time to build up a good rapport and support her to engage with others and her community resources.
You should be committed, reliable, motivated, proactive, creative and enthusiastic as well as adaptable and comfortable with a slower pace when needed.
She is looking for someone who will engage with her throughout activities at home such as crafts, listening to music, appreciating her DVD collection, knitting, shopping, baking and more. A good sense of humour is a must as she enjoys some banter with her support team and her housemate
This will also include supporting the gentleman to build upon links he has within his community. He is looking for someone who can share and enjoy his interests which include baking, going to the cinema, hill walking, his DVD collection, and especially quality one to one time with his support team.
He is looking for someone who is patient and can explain things clearly and concisely, someone who will endeavour to work with his support team to ensure consistency within support and responses which is essential in minimising anxieties.
You must also have a positive and flexible outlook to your work, and be able to work on your own and as part of a team. An understanding and sharing of person-centred values is key to supporting both individuals to plan and work towards their outcomes.
Flexibility is required as the hours of work vary and include evening, weekends and sleepovers. Personal care is a part of this role for both individuals supported.
A driving licence is desirable as both individuals have their own car.
Experience in supporting individuals with learning disability, autism and challenging behaviour is also desirable although not essential - please draw on any experience you may have in either professionally or personally, only the right attitude and values are essential.
ENABLE Scotland is committed to improving the lives of people with learning disabilities. We want to employ people who are prepared to make a difference in people's lives and are willing to adapt to change to continually meet the needs of the people we support.
We provide an extensive training programme, combined with a commitment to create career development opportunities within ENABLE Scotland.
You must be willing to work towards the required qualifications for this post which at present are an SVQ 2 in Health and Social Care. We offer positive terms and conditions, including a contributory pension scheme.
