This is a PERMANENT Safety and Systems Assurance Engineer

This role is responsible for supporting the Thales Transportation Engineering Safety and Systems Assurance (ES&SA) function in undertaking and delivering the required Systems Assurance and Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS) analyses for Projects/Products, in accordance with Project/Product requirements, Customer requirements, and Chorus 2.0 ES&SA processes. The role will provide support to Functional Advisor ensuring that ES&SA processes are applied consistently and to the required quality across all of the GTS UK ES&SA function.

  • Providing Technical Safety, Systems Assurance and RAM support to the key roles of the Project according to the Customer/user requirements RAMS relevant Standards and Chorus 2 ES&SA processes
  • Undertaking all Technical Safety, Systems Assurance and RAM engineering activities throughout the Project/Product lifecycle, from the specification to the acceptance of the product
  • Safety Integrity Level (SIL) allocation for systems/subsystems and process validation
  • Performing all Technical Safety and RAM Analyses and ensuring their traceability throughout the Project/Product life cycle
  • Managing the approval of the Technical Safety and RAM Demonstration
  • Participation in and management of the Safety Design Reviews undertaken throughout the lifecycle of the Project
  • Managing Safety Assessments and Audits undertaken throughout the lifecycle of GTS Projects
  • Coordinating and Supporting the ES&SA input to all new bids by UK GTS, ensuring appropriate coverage from within UK GTS ES&SA or identification of any external inputs required
  • Supporting for Engineering Safety accident/ incident reporting and investigation
  • Providing Support; to deliver Engineering Safety Training pack and to the ES&SA Functional Advisor to promote the ES&SA function and activities throughout GTS
  • Ensure the planning and compilation of all Technical Safety, Systems Assurance and RAM deliverables
  • Ensure the implementation of Technical Safety and RAM processes according to Customer requirements, Chorus 2.0 processes and relevant standards
  • Manage the Hazard Log update through out the Project life cycle
  • Ensure that all CMP Engineering Safety Category 1 and 2 accidents and incidents are both investigated and reported within 7 working days
  • Exercising Technical Safety and RAM leadership for the Project/Product
  • Ensuring all Technical Safety and RAM activities consistently implement Chorus 2.0 DDQS (Design, Develop, Qualify the Solution) processes
  • Supporting Functional initiatives to promote ES&SA Function through GTS UK
  • Participating in Project/Product Design Reviews to check and validate the correct implementation of the Technical Safety and RAM requirements and Technical Safety and RAM processes, and ensuring the planned Technical Safety and RAM activities and deliverables are in alignment with the desig
  • Monitoring and auditing the Project/Product for performance and compliance in line with processes and procedures

Experience:

Essential

  • Engineering Safety/RAMS Engineering and/or Systems Assurance background
  • Formal training or supervised work in applying Technical Safety and RAM Engineering techniques, methods and tools
  • Proven experience of undertaking FMECA and Technical Safety and RAM Assessments
  • Proven experience of involvement in hazard identification / risk assessment workshops
  • Ability to use RAM Tools such as Isograph FaultTree+ and Availability Workbench (or AvSim+)
  • Ability to effectively communicate and report, in both verbal and written English, to colleagues and customers on highly technical matters

Desirable

  • Experience in General Systems or Safety Management, within the railway, light rail / tram or other transportation industry
  • Recent experience of Technical Safety and RAM engineering within the ground transportation industry would be advantageous
  • Experience in development of complex Safety Cases/Appraisals
  • General experience in Systems and Safety Assurance, ideally within the ground transportation industry
