The Public Service Pensions Act 2013 requires all administering authorities within the Local Government Pension Scheme to establish a Local Pension Board. The Local Pension Board will be responsible for assisting North Yorkshire County Council as Scheme Managers, in securing compliance with LGPS Regulations, other legislation relating to governance of the Scheme, any requirements of The Pensions Regulator, and in ensuring effective governance and scheme administration. Applicants for the role of Chair should have experience either as a Pension Fund trustee or in the running of pension funds, or have significant experience in dealing with governance issues. Alongside the Independent Chair, the new Board will comprise employer representatives and member representatives. The Board will be an oversight body and will not replace existing governance arrangements in place in respect of the administration of the Local Government Pension Scheme. To ensure and maintain independence, the role is not open to members of the North Yorkshire Pension Fund. There is an allowance payable for the Chair of the Pension Board, GBP2,316 pa (2015/16).
