Job Title: Senior Technical Consultant - Business Intelligence
This role will provide business intelligence team leadership, expertise, delivery and consulting to a variety of large corporate clients. Working with a team and reporting to the BI Practice Manager, the Senior Technical Consultant must understand a client’s business problem, architect a viable solution and guide the implementation of that solution within the client’s environment.
Responsibilities
Client environments will vary in size, industry sector and working arrangements, so the scope of each project will vary. Flexibility of approach is required in carrying out responsibilities, including:
Working with client companies to establish the business need
Scoping the solution by providing a clear, accurate and workable brief and then ensuring this works in practise
Devising and delivering appropriate BI architectures and technical solutions to meet client requirements.
Consulting with the client, providing liaison, ongoing communication, managing client expectations and dealing with client issues
Supporting business development and pre-sales activities including proposal writing
Mentoring and Coaching of more junior members of the team
Experience
A range of experience of delivering Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing technologies including user interfaces, particularly using the Microsoft BI technology stack end -to-end
A proven track record of successful implementation of a number of leading edge technological solutions within large blue-chip client companies preferably across a number of business verticals
A proven ability to develop clear understandings of clients’ needs and the ability to incorporate them into a solution
Experience of consultancy roles in software delivery
Experience in a delivery-orientated IT environment
Proven leadership, mentoring and coaching experience
General Skills & Abilities
Highly self-motivated and goal orientated
The ability to show initiative and lead others to a solution
An intelligent, analytical and pragmatic approach to problem solving
Excellent relationship building skills with clients and colleagues
Experience in executive-level writing, negotiations, and presentations
First class written and verbal communication skills
The enthusiasm and ability to motivate and inspire others, as both a leader and a team player
The ability to effectively prioritise, delegate and deliver in a high-pressure environment
The resilience to approach challenging issues with a positive and fresh outlook
Qualifications and Skills
First Class / Upper Second Class IT-related degree preferred
Microsoft Certified Professional – premium level preferred, i.e. MCITP, MCDBA, MCSD
Essential experience of the following specific technologies: Microsoft SQL Server, Analysis Services, Relational database, Integration Services, Reporting Services, Data mining
Experience in the following is also desirable, but not essential:
Microsoft SharePoint
Microsoft Dynamics CRM
Microsoft .NET development in C#
Other enterprise Relational database technologies, e.g. Oracle, DB2, Ingres, Informix, Sybase etc
Other Multi-Dimensional OLAP database technologies, e.g. Hyperion, Applix TM1 , Oracle Express, Holos, Cognos PowerPlay Transformer Cubes etc
Other Data Warehousing and ETL Tools, e.g. Ab Initio, Microstrategy, Kalido, Informatica, Business Objects Data Integrator etc
Other Analytical and Reporting tools, e.g. Microsoft Office/Excel, Panorama NovaView, Temtec, Cognos PowerPlay, Cognos ReportNet, Business Objects
Experience of Corporate ERP and Accounting systems, e.g. SAP, Siebel, JDE, SUN Accounts etc
