Activities and Responsibilities
Transcription:
- Producing verbatim transcripts of digitally recorded audio/video and analogue recorded audio/video, in accordance with the MLS style guidelines including material of a highly confidential nature and which can be emotionally challenging.
- Proofreading/editing and amending screen-based text.
- Carrying out word-for-word QC checks against audio/video.
- Checking transcripts for both style and content errors in accordance with the guidelines of Style Manuals, and making corrections as required.
- Maintaining basic records regarding personal performance and time management.
Business Development
- To act in a professional manner at all times and where in contact with clients to seek to build relationships.
Interpersonal Management
- To work effectively as part of a team, recognise areas where support is required and offer assistance.
- To be flexible and adaptable in approach.
- To take an active role in personal development and frequently review individual objectives.
- To attend training sessions as appropriate/required.
- To be able to self-motivate and support other team members.
- To communicate positively at all levels.
Outputs and skills to be developed
An accurate and correctly formatted legal transcript.
Skills required
- Good general knowledge.
- Excellent English grammar skills.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure.
- Ability to work to deadlines.
- Ability to touch-type at a minimum speed of 60 wpm.
- Ability to audio type at a minimum speed of 45 wpm.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to understand a complicated argument and report it clearly and accurately.
Desirable but not necessary:
- Working knowledge of transcription software.
- Familiarity with a range of audio/video file formats.
- A sound understanding of legal and/or business terms.
