Data Centre Technician for Devon
I am looking for an enthusiastic and motivated IT support technician who wishes to join the datacenter of this excellent and rapidly expanding company
To be considered for this superb role you will need to have some (or all) of the following skills
- Previous experience working in a data center or server operations team environment for Windows and/or Unix Servers
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, 7/24 data center mission critical environment with rapidly changing priorities
- Intermediate knowledge of HVAC, Power, Fire, Data Center building operations and safety
- Intermediate knowledge of telecommunications technologies, systems and circuits
- Intermediate data center skills and experience in installing/moving equipment and cabling on a large-scale basis
- Experience with data center management disciplines, including security, configuration management, capacity planning and environmental monitoring
- Excellent communications with others, especially regarding technical matters
- Ability to understand server down impact and escalate issues appropriately
- Ability to follow established processes and procedures
- Provide support for all systems and applications hosted in the Global Data Centers
- Ability to troubleshoot with-in the Mainframe, Window, UNIX, Linux platforms
The role is varied and busy - it will include
- Supporting data center provisioning services and hardware life cycle management procedures
- Installation of all equipment, order receiving,
- coordination with server/storage vendors, facilities, networking and other teams.
- System decommissioning, asset disposal and maintaining certificates of destruction for Servers, disks media, etc.
- Support break/fix hardware failures, co-ordinating vendor(s), change requests & ensure system support and application support groups are aware of any issues with the hardware.
- Manage the team incident, request, change & problem queues, and ensure timely turn around time for resolution to agreed SLA's
- Complete all backup restores within SLA, including File, Messaging, Legacy and Legal restores on Arcsrv, Backup Exec and Comvault platforms
- Monitor backup jobs daily and conduct testing of the restore processes to ensure reliable operation.
- Responsible for all tape management activities, a function in keeping with the nightly ongoing success of data backup archival in adherence to corporate policy.
- Manage secure storage of media on site according to classification and identification information
- Perform daily verification inventory checks to ensure tape movement into and out of the data center are accurate according to tape pull lists and other documentation.
