My client is looking to recruit a Lead Engineer for their business located in the heart of Wiltshire. This is a newly created position with the company, and will join a small team of engineers within the company working on my clients products.

As part of the engineering project team, you will be working with various departments within the business, and suppliers both internal and external leading the design and development of my client's electro-mechanical products.

You will be responsible for developing my client's products looking to improve the products performance, reducing cost, weight and size of the products.

Responsibilities

  • Working with Principle Engineer and program managers to develop budget, resource and timescale plans for new actuators.
  • Working with System, mechanical, hardware and software engineers to analyse customer requirements and define component specifications.
  • Develop strategy and design concepts for new applications, meeting cost, performance and package targets in conjunction with external technology, component and sub-assembly suppliers.
  • In accordance with the advanced quality procedures, systems and Gateway (APQP) process, and as part of the SDT, design and develop products through to production handover, including Lead the DFMEA process
  • Coordinate CAE validation work and reporting.
  • Preparation and release of designs, including drawings, bill of materials, component material and test specifications, from prototype to production level.
  • Prepare and manage the prototype test plan (DVP) as part of system validation.
  • Organise the manufacture and testing of prototype parts through the manufacturing systems.
  • Resolution of design problems related to product performance, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Prepare technical reports related to design and test validation for internal departments, customers and suppliers.
  • Support the development from prototype to production introduction of sub component with suppliers
  • Initiate and lead R&D projects leading to the actuators with improved performance reduced cost and weight.
  • Advance the company's in-house design technology, including magnetic circuits, to enable new products to be developed 'right first time' (RFT).
  • Advance companies testing technology, on both bench and in-vehicle.
  • Maintain a high standard of communication with members of other teams, functional managers, customers and suppliers to pursue project objectives
  • Support the achievement of objectives, which may require occasionally working outside the aforementioned responsibilities.
  • Skills/Experience Required

      Educated to degree levelEngineering design experience of products for high volume manufacture, involving a variety of materials and technologiesDemonstrable experience in automotive or aerospace engineering.Strong capability to research and learn about new manufacturing processes/technologies and how to apply them to solve design challenges.Basic understanding of magnetic circuit design, simulation methods and tools.Basic understanding of permanent magnet technologies and manufacture.Basic electric and electronics understanding.Experience of component testing and test specification preparation.Proactive, creative, target oriented team player.
