Purpose of the Head Housekeeper:

1. To manage effectively and efficiently all Housekeeping services in the Home.
2. To maintain excellent health & safety standards throughout the Home.
3. To support the maintenance of a positive reputation for the Home in the local community.
4. To support the attainment of budgeted financial performance, ensuring cost effective approach to procurement and utilisation of non-clinical consumables,
5. To help build and maintain a well-motivated and engaged workforce.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

1. All areas of the Home (residents’ rooms and communal &public spaces) consistently are maintained in accordance with the Company’s standards and in support of the brand proposition.
2. The Laundry service for residents and non-personal items meets Company standards in terms of quality, speed and accuracy.
3. The physical appearance of the Home is maintained to a consistently high standard in accordance with the brand proposition.
4. Housekeeping staff retention is good (t/o < 10%); core skills staff training is maintained and skills development is evident.
KEY DUTIES AND TASKS:

Customer Care

• Ensure that a personalized approach to resident care, laundry and Housekeeping services in particular is delivered in accordance with the unique needs of each individual.
• Ensure the courteous and effective delivery of all housekeeping services throughout the Home.
• Continually assess the needs of residents and promptly investigate and resolve complaints or requests for improvements.

Operational standards

• Ensure compliance with all Company policies and procedures, regulations and Statutory provisions in the effective management of the Home.
• Develop, promote and maintain defined standards of care, implementing improvements in accordance with evidence-based practice.
• Promote health and safety in the Home ensuring a safe environment for residents, employees and visitors, complying will Company health and safety policy.
• Investigate all accidents and incidents, taking any appropriate action and ensuring reporting and recording.
• Ensure that all documentation relating to Hospitality services is stored correctly and accessed only in accordance with Company policy.
• Ensure that Company policies are implemented with respect to the security and safety of residents’ possessions.
• Manage the maintenance of the physical condition of the Home, ensuring the building is clean and consistently of a high standard of appearance.

• Undertake workforce planning to anticipate and accommodate staff turnover, maternity leave and occupancy or service changes.

Marketing

• Support the maintenance of positive working relationships with residents’ families and all other local community stakeholders.
• Ensure that the Home is well promoted in the local community. Ensure that any positive events concerning the Home are advertised to increase public awareness.

Financial performance

• Ensure the financial affairs of the Home are managed in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Comply fully with Company policy with regard to revenue and capital expenditure approvals

Leadership and people

• Ensure the recruitment of appropriately qualified staff within the Laundry and Housekeeping departments, working in accordance with relevant Company policies and procedures.
• Manage housekeeping staff duty rotas to ensure consistent service, delivery of the brand proposition and adherence to budget in accordance with Company policy.
• Provide leadership and mentoring to Housekeeping staff throughout the Home to maintain excellent standards of performance, to ensure awareness and implementation of best practice and to support individual Housekeeping staff members’ continuing professional development.
• Plan, organize and undertake as appropriate monthly supervisions and annual performance management assessments for all Housekeeping staff in the Home.
• Participate as appropriate in the selection and appointment of staff in accordance with Company policy, Statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure staff induction, training, supervision and appraisal is conducted in accordance with relevant policies.
• Ensure that mandatory staff training is undertaken, that certification is kept current and that agreed staff development plans are implemented.
• Support monitoring of staff absence and intervene as required to assure satisfactory levels of attendance. Ensure annual leave requests are authorized and recorded correctly and fully.
• Ensure that staff are well presented at all times in accordance with the uniform policy and dress code.
