THE ROLE:
As a member of the UNIX Operational Team, this role requires a broad range of technical knowledge specialising in RHEL to a high level. The key focus will be to implement and support new development initiatives for the firm and its subsidiaries, ensuring the most appropriate solutions are chosen and adopted.
Key activities for the Unix team include:
*RHEL Linux,
*Veritas SF and VCS system administration
*Installation and maintenance of new Servers and 3rd party software
*System performance reporting, and enhancement
*Shell Scripting/Perl Scripting
*Technical awareness of future products, concepts and standards
*Evaluation and recommendation of new products and technologies
*Disaster recovery and contingency planning
*Develop and enhance standards
*Project Management
*Systems performance analysis and management
*Integration with storage systems and other key stakeholders ie Database Team
Your key accountabilities
*Provide day to day support of production and non-production systems
*Installation, configuring, monitoring, and deployment of Unix server hardware
*Provide ad-hoc support to various Infrastructure and Development teams
*Provide out of hours on-call support
*Work with Development teams to provide effective and supportable UNIX environments
*Provide Unix related technical advice to Development Groups
*Provide development and implementation support for both infrastructure and development projects
*Learn and understand the methodology and mechanics of the assigned business areas
*Provide clear technical documentation describing UNIX environments and standards
*Provide information to management on UNIX Server capacity/resource usage
*Maintain ticket system, including Security Access Requests
*Perform system wide updates, server installations and general day to day maintenance
*Ensuring backup integrity
*Attention to detail
SKILLS REQUIRED:
An understanding and experience with:
*Advanced Unix Administration and troubleshooting (RHEL essential)
*Network transport optimisation
*Veritas Volume Manager and Veritas Cluster Server
*Clustering technologies - HACMP/Veritas Cluster Services
*Knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, LDAP and NFS)
*Shell and Perl/Python Scripting
*UNIX Command Line
*Troubleshooting performance, networking and connectivity
*Performance based issues with OS and/or hardware
*Unix/Linux clusters, with installing and configuring software
*Reviewing and managing performance and stability across the Infrastructure services
*Adept at reading, writing, and interpreting technical documentation and procedure manuals
*Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
*Service oriented, ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
*Symantec Netbackup and its use
Desirable skills
*Working knowledge of the following server hardware:
*DELL
*IBM
*Oracle/SUN
*HP
*Working knowledge of HP Openview, Control-M and Autosys
*Working knowledge of SAN storage and host-based configuration
*Virtualization and strong networking knowledge
*Banking or finance related business experience
*Technical certifications (ie, Red Hat, Puppet, Chef, Bamboo, MySQL)
