Become a foster carer today and find a child’s ‘inner superhero’.

Due to a shortage of foster carers, Sefton Council is seeking 30+ new carers to join its professional team. As a foster carer you will work closely with the council’s fostering service to improve the lives of vulnerable children and young people through high quality care.

Could you foster?

Just like the children they care for, foster carers come from all walks of life. You don’t need formal qualifications to foster, but you do need to be an excellent listener and be motivated to help children be the best that they can be. You will have patience, understanding, resilience and a good sense of humour! Once living with you, children should feel welcome in your home and included in your family life.

Now for the practical stuff

You need to have a spare room in your home.

You will be expected to support a child in their day to day life, whether fun social activities such as sports and after school clubs, or helping them with their homework.

As a carer with Sefton you will be a key member of a professional team working to keep children safe and reach their potential. You will be fully supported in your role and have access to lots of learning opportunities, allowing you to develop your skills and your career in foster care.

There are excellent financial incentives – the more experienced and skilled you become, the higher the level of payments you receive. Foster Carer tax relief also means you are likely to pay little or no tax on your fostering payment. In many cases you can foster at the same time as other paid employment.
