UNIX SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR required by a prestigious life sciences research centre to maintain and develop a robust and high performance UNIX infrastructure to support cutting edge life sciences/medical research.
Office based in Cambridge.
TO GBP37,785 + 30 days AL + bank holidays + FINAL SALARY PENSION!

The Unix Systems Administrator will be responsible for ensuring continuous and reliable provision of the organisations UNIX based enterprise IT functions.

Key duties will include:

• Lead, design/plan, implement, administer and maintain UNIX/Linux based server systems in both physical and virtualised environments
• Manage and Administer the Unix Mail Server (Exim, Dovecot), including webmail access (Roundcube)
• Provider technical leadership in the administrations of NIS/LDAP,NFS and DNS Servers, including other networking services
• Manage and upgrade the network architecture, Switches, Routers and dedicated Firewall configuration
• Design, development and maintenance of HPC Clusters and related scientific computing equipment working
• Oversee security, backups and Disaster Recovery (DR)
• Deputise for the IT Manager as required with a view to long term career progression
• Keep up to date with emerging technology trends in line with evolving organisational requirements

The successful Unix Systems Administrator will have good full time hands-on experience of Unix Systems administration and strong internal stakeholder management skills, including good experience of:

• Linux
• Mail Server administration
• Managing security, backup and disaster recovery
• NIS/LDAP, NFS, DNS
• Virtualisation (eg Vmware, Vsphere)
• Working in a multi-OS environment

Nice-to-have's include experience of:

• Solaris to Linux migration
• Installing and managing HPC Clusters
• Exim, Dovecot
