Software Development Manager - Development, Java, Web, Software, Management
To lead and manage the successful delivery of software changes using Java, Web and Oracle technologies. To be the primary interface between project managers and the development function and to ensure the implementations are in line with enterprise architecture, principals and agreed design, and a quality service is delivered into test and production environments successfully.
Responsibilities as a Software Development Manager:
- Responsible for leading all aspects of development of software in line with the agreed enterprise architecture.
- Leading distributed teams of between 2-50 people (analysts, designers, developers, component testers) ensuring development activities are completed as per estimates and agreed timelines. Provides guidance where required to all resources within the team,
- To manage the resolution of all defects, including the highest priority/severity across all environments from a development perspective.
- To produce overall high level cost estimates breakdowns for all aspects of development for each, future business unit specific, IT proposition.
- To identify opportunities to strengthen departmental processes, tools and ways of working. Implement these changes taking in to account the needs of the department as a whole.
Knowledge and Skills
- Proven track record of managing the development of nationwide scalable, high performance Java/Oracle processing systems. Highly experienced leadership in the implementation of mission critical, resilient multi threaded batch processing systems.
- Previous hands on experience of developing Java/Oracle applications.
- This should include:
Core and Enterprise Java
Oracle 11g - PL/SQL, SQL, Tuning etc
Hibernate or ORM technology
Spring and related frameworks
Unit testing
XML
- Project and development methodologies eg PRINCE II, Iterative work, RUP, Agile, SCRUM
- In depth hands on experience of defect management tools.
- Proven experience in reviewing technical/design documentation.
