Drawing Office Manager

Job Elements: -

• To oversee the work of the Drawing Office to ensure drawings and programmes are delivered on time in full; the product quality exceeds customers’ expectations; and costs are controlled within budget.
• To drive continuous improvement of CAD and BOM systems, processes to improve productivity and eliminate waste.
• To manage the new product introduction process, from the point at which a market need has been identified and evaluated, and a concept design approved, until full integration into the company’s product portfolio.
• To develop the skills within the team, to ensure flexibility and succession planning.
• Ensure modelling times are estimated consistently and accurately, ensure
• Support the Technical Sales Estimators in the preparation of quotations for customer requirements which are outside the scope of the current offer. Evaluate quotations, propose solutions, prototype design, estimate modelling and programming time, engineer BOM, and liaise with Production Manager to estimate process times.
• Work as a member of the team as necessary, carrying out modelling and programming to meet the requirements of the schedule.
• Ensure that manufacturing drawings and programmes are issued and controlled according to the requirements of ISO9001
• Investigate the causes of non-conformances and customer complaints. Identify and implement actions which will prevent recurrence.
• Ensure new products are introduced in accordance with the company’s quality procedures. Liaise with the Technical Sales Manager to ensure legislation and certification requirements are met.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Ability to set and communicate clearly defined objectives and timescales
• Ability to define a project plan, monitor progress, and take action to ensure project remains on schedule and budget
• Educated to at least HND level in Mechanical Engineering / Design
• 3D CAD experience
• Working knowledge of ERP systems, in particular, the generation of bills of materials / routings within an ERP system
• Experience of managing a small team of design engineers
• Experience of new product introductions
