Parents Writer

Job Introduction

MEN Media is looking for a Parents Writer to source, create and produce content aimed at families;  ensure a high level of digital publishing standards and to establish a thriving ‘Manchester Parents’ community, building a highly engaged audience.

Role Responsibility

The successful candidate will:

Create and run a new family focused stream of content on manchestereveningnews.co.uk; source, generate and publish useful, compelling content aimed at parents

Understand how to create content of interest to parents, particularly those on maternity/paternity leave

Create listings

Generate content out of issues that matter to parents

Manage all social channels relating to this new area of content, interact with parents and develop dialogues with established groups

Source content including opinions, video and pictures through a range of social channels.

You will:

Write strong opinion pieces and be involved in campaigns. Have a constant flow of ideas to serve our audience. Use analytics to inform content decisions. Work towards clear audience targets set by the business. Be prepared to innovate and find original ways to serve this audience, keeping on top of new digital storytelling techniques.. Write in an engaging - and at times humorous - way about a range of subjects. Work with agility and be able to write flawless, accurate content to regular deadlines. Publish packages of content to a very high standard, writing headlines and uploading words, pictures, video and audio. Take/source and edit pictures, audio and video, captioning according to metadata protocols. Work with other specialists to ensure comprehensive coverage of content of interest to families such as health ratings, primary school guides. Build and maintain contacts to ensure unrivalled coverage of this specialist area including exclusive stories. Be a positive ambassador for the company in relation to our family audience. React to related breaking news. Generate and manage content from our audience, building a strong network of contacts and contributors. Work flexibly across all platforms as need arises. Manage or undertake company/editorial projects and any other duties from time to time as reasonably requested by management. Maintain the highest personal standards of professionalism and integrity at all times within the framework of current legislation and Trinity Mirror’s editorial and company policies. Maintain a thorough, up-to-date knowledge of media law and IPSO code Communicate with users as and when required, including responding to or escalating complaints and moderating content submitted to the site according to Trinity Mirror policy.

The Ideal Candidate

Trinity Mirror or equivalent journalist qualification (or relevant time-served experience). Strong content judgement. Excellent writing skills. A deep understanding of how to use social media to build relationships, source and share content. A deep understanding of how to make content engaging to audiences. Comfortable at getting out and about and making contacts. Awareness and understanding of how people use the internet to find information. Ability to edit video and audio or willingness to learn. Ability to work well under deadline pressure. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Flexible approach to shifts. Full driving licence.
