Job Introduction

MEN Media is looking for Evening & Weekend Content/Production Journalist to maintain high quality coverage of Greater Manchester on manchestereveningnews.co.uk during evening and weekends

Role Responsibility

The successful candidate will:  

Source and produce compelling content which appeals to weekend and evening users of our sites, spanning news, sport, what’s on and advance content

Ensure high level of digital publication standards, delivered in a way which meets audience expectations across multiple platforms with particular focus on the high proportion of mobile traffic in the evenings and at weekends

Understand audience data and analytics and organise content responsively

You will:

Produce compelling content which responds to audience trends during evenings and weekends Own all aspects of publishing breaking news and sports stories in evenings and weekends Maintain strong social media presence for MEN during weekends and evenings Manage and maintain site as and when required, ensuring key landing pages are kept fresh Use data and analytics to help prioritise content for the evening and weekends based around what we know appeals most to these audiences. Live blog and make sure breaking news and sport gets the show it needs. Ensure search engine-optimised, engaging, legally sound and accurate articles are published on time to meet audience spikes and agreed content schedules Work with social media editor to ensure that we quickly develop content around key local social trends or stories which break on social platforms Ensure optimum use of social media to established workflows for breaking news and live news/sport coverage Monitor performance of content using analytics tools such as Chartbeat and Omniture and provide performance reports, playing an active role in conferences as required Ensure content is published with the correct metadata at all times Organise and plan live event coverage including briefing reporters and setting up/planning/contributing to delivery of live blogs Ensure brand character is maintained on digital platforms and that digital best practice and style guides are adhered to in terms of metadata, optimisation and content formatting Ensure websites and apps are well maintained and housekept to ensure content is up to date and correctly formatted Ensure that content is promoted via an effective social media presence and work with social media team to ensure effective promotion via brand social presence Communicate with users as and when required, including responding to or escalating complaints and moderating content submitted to the site according to Trinity Mirror policy Ensure best practice from other Trinity Mirror centres and publishers is implemented Assist in general uploading, digital content creation and website management in line with established workflows or SLAs across brands as required Manage or undertake company/editorial projects and any other duties from time to time as reasonably requested by management Maintain the highest personal standards of professionalism and integrity at all times within the framework of current legislation and Trinity Mirror’s editorial and company policies, and ensuring these standards are upheld across the newsroom Maintain a thorough, up-to-date knowledge of media law and IPSO code Keep up-to-date on the latest mobile developments and innovations in story-telling

The Ideal Candidate

Trinity Mirror or equivalent journalist qualification (or relevant time-served experience with an exceptional track record in digital publishing). Excellent writing skills and experience with using online storytelling techniques professionally superb social media skills a deep understanding of how to make content engaging to audiences. a deep understanding of how content is shared and promoted through social media Comfortable at getting out and about and making contacts Awareness and understanding of how people use the internet to find information Ability to shoot and edit video and audio Ability to work well under deadline pressure Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Flexible approach to shifts Full driving licence
