Job Introduction
MEN Media is looking for a City Centre Beat Blogger to create, gather and share content online from the relevant communities on our patch about everything which touches the lives of readers who live, work and play there.
Role Responsibility
The successful candidate will:
Create and share content that will make manchestereveningnews.co.uk the go-to place for people living, working and socialising in the relevant community
Engage with online readers by providing a comprehensive and regularly updated service of live and breaking news and information including images, video, graphics and memes
Share content via social media and to make sure it is both shareable and search engine optimised; work with and respond to what our readers are excited about and interested in
You will:
Generate content which engages audiences and which meets standards set by the business in terms of quality, consistency, accuracy and legal compliance Provide SEO, engaging beat content delivered in a variety of formats and in a way which meets audience expectations across multiple platforms Source, create and publish content aimed at people living, working and socialising in the beat area as agreed with content heads Identify, source or shoot beat-related video content for publication on web and social sites and produce still images as routine Live cover key beat area events Take ownership of beat In Your Area pages creating appointment-to-view content Engage in online conversations with audience and use topics to inform content creation decisions Understand and use analytics to inform beat-themed content creation decisions and to analyse performance Use digital storytelling tools to enhance online beat content and stay abreast of online storytelling developments Achieve agreed targets set by department heads for beat In Your Area pages Build and maintain contacts to ensure unrivalled coverage of beat including regular exclusives and be an ambassador for the company on all assignments Provide coverage outside specialist field when reasonably directed to do so. Take photographs and caption accurately observing metadata protocols Shoot video and edit it to an acceptable standard for broadcasting online Record interviews for use on online platforms and edit audio to an acceptable standard for broadcasting online Write directly onto web as required and upload audio, video, images, content to web as required Source and trigger online reaction to breaking news to ensure maximum user generated content input into stories Interact with readers/audience on Social Media Take part in community initiatives as opportunities arise to increase audience, contributors and user generated content Ensure a ‘right-first-time’ approach is taken to all content generation Work flexibly across all publications platforms as need arises, including rota working across evenings and weekends as required Maintain a thorough, up-to-date knowledge of media law and IPSO code Undertake company/editorial projects and any other duties from time to time as reasonably requested by management. The Ideal Candidate Trinity Mirror or equivalent journalist qualification (or relevant time-served experience with an exceptional track record in digital publishing). Excellent writing skills and experience with using online storytelling techniques professionally superb social media skills a deep understanding of how to make content engaging to audiences. a deep understanding of how content is shared and promoted through social media Comfortable at getting out and about and making contacts Awareness and understanding of how people use the internet to find information Ability to shoot and edit video and audio Ability to work well under deadline pressure Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written Flexible approach to shifts Full driving licence
