Web Developer - London

Skills and experience:

  • 5+ years HTML experience (xhtml, Html5). Ability to create responsive, standards complaint (W3C and WCAG2), accessible, cross browser/device websites.
  • User experience design and SEO design experience.
  • 5+ years CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) experience including CSS3 and media queries for responsive design.
  • 3+ years experience with Content Management systems including customising modules/widjets. Experience of Jadu CMS.
  • 3+ years JavaScript experience to include jQuery, JQueryMobile and AJAX.
  • 3+ year PHP coding experience. Advanced knowledge of PHP5, form handling and validation and Database interaction (pref. via adodb)
  • 2+ years SQL database, coding and database driven website experience (MySQL or MsSQL).
  • 2+ years of SharePoint administration experience
  • Experience of authentication/security including SAML
  • Experience of working with geographic information & online mapping systems.
  • GIT hub experience
  • Agile methodology experience
  • Minimum 2-year IT/Computer Science qualification required.
  • Technical/instructional writing skills a bonus.
  • Experience of the following applications/systems: Parature, ADX Studio portal, Team Foundation

Description of work:

- To provide technical expertise on the development of the website, Intranet and Extranet.
- To develop new interfaces, systems, databases and web applications.
- To develop and implement the design of the website, Intranet and extranets.
- To assist the web manager in developing the website as a strategic tool for communication, access and ways of working, ensuring they meet government and best practice standards and objectives.
- To lead the design and maintenance of the council website, Intranet and Extranet ensuring that they reflect the objectives of the organisation and corporate identity
- To play a key role in researching and analysing appropriate website design in order to further the development of a quality website, Intranet and Extranet, whilst maintaining associated industry standards and requirements.
- To work with the guidance of the Web Development Manager to project manage and implement projects for improvements and new functionality across the website, Intranet and Extranet.
- To work with identified staff on systems development projects in order to provide pro-active technical advice, assistance and support.
- To assist in the identification, commissioning, development and implementation of ICT systems to support website, Intranet and Extranet services.
- To provide technical development and support to electronic service delivery projects and research and develop work practices and systems leading to fully integrated systems
- To provide a responsive expert technical support service for all website, Intranet and Extranet users, including awareness, training, procedures, standards, problem solving and fault resolution.
- To provide technical advice and support to IT partners, vendors and 3rd party suppliers on all aspects of the web teams work.
- To create web pages in consultation with other officers and in partnership with representatives of local community and voluntary organisations, advising on good design and website practice and ensuring currency and accuracy and compliance with government guidelines.
- To ensure enquiries regarding web services are dealt with promptly and efficiently and excellent customer care is provided throughout.
- To ensure that data and records are maintained in accordance with agreed standards, including arrangements for the regular housekeeping of computerised information.
- To support and contribute towards cross-departmental meetings and working parties, representing the web team as required.
- To maintain an awareness of council strategies, policies and developments.
- To ensure the data protection act and all other relevant legislation and council policies are complied with in the delivery of the duties of the post.
