Working within a specialist application development team, your role will be to design and develop customer focused self-service telephony applications. These solutions typically save Customer Service Advisors time by identifying and verifying callers, providing balances and payment information. You will be developing applications using advanced speech recognition technologies, Voice XML development tools and in some cases Java.

Primary responsibilities include
Collaborating with other developers and end users / project managers;

  • Designing applications for maximum reusability and maintainability;
  • Creating voice applications using development tools from Avaya;
  • Developing supporting functions / applications using Java;
  • Providing first line support for applications developed by the speech team.
  • Background:

Our Voice Self Service solutions incorporate a range of technologies including:

  • Automatic Speech Recognition;
  • Text-to-Speech;
  • Voice Biometrics;
  • Phone Application Servers;
  • Interactive Voice Response.

These solutions are reliant on a range of open standard voice and data protocols. Applications are primarily based on Text-to-Speech (moving across to VoiceXML) but also rely upon Java, J2EE and database systems.
 

Skills, Experience & Knowledge
Experience of delivering custom software applications;

  • Telephony / CTI knowledge;
  • IVR / speech application development experience using IVR design tools;
  • Voice Objects, Dialog Designer or other VoiceXML application systems;
  • Speech recognition systems exposure (Nuance, SpeechWorks, Philips, Telisma);
  • Database experience (simple development using MS SQL Server) with J2EE systems (Tomcat);
  • JavaScript.
