Role: Quality Control Inspector

Polar Manufacturing Limited is a manufacturer of carbon fibre and composite components incorporating design, machining and coating, at their facility in Wymondham, Norfolk. Polar serves a broad spectrum of industry sectors which includes Defence, Automotive, Sport & Leisure, Communications, Alternative Energy, Marine, Medical and Motorsport, as well as a growing in-house product development capability.

Due to the continued annual growth and expansion of the company from its formation, the Quality Control Lead role is required to maintain a very high standard of components and traceability for the business.

Duties to include but not limited to:

•Attending a weekly production meeting and presenting the findings from the previous week, highlighting to design and production areas of concern to be addressed
•Sit in on New Product Introduction (NPI) meetings to highlight the expected quality and procedures that will be implemented
•Undertake existing and new supplier audits
•Incorporate a robust inspection procedure. Document so this can be added to the quality manual
•Inspect and document all parts prior to despatch. Noting any parts that require rework, monitoring and documenting scrap and rework rates with associated costs
•Communicate and document issues arising to the relevant productive area(s) to increase knowledge, skill and what is expected
•Ensure all requirements and visual quality standards are maintained throughout the manufacturing process to achieve the highest part quality is delivered to the customer
•Troubleshoot new and existing product problems involving designs, materials or processes
•Determine the root causes of failure using the 8D process
•Install and report Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) relative to maintaining quality standards - e.g.: customer returns, supplier quality, cost of quality (COQ) and delivery performance
•Prepare documentation for new products and/or manufacturing processes or engineering procedures

Technical Skills and Work Experience:

•Previous experience in an inspection or quality role is essential
•Sharp eye for detail, methodical and organised is essential
•Knowledge of ISO 9001 would be an advantage
•Committed to continuous improvement principles (ideally with demonstrable experience)
•Must be proficient using MS Office applications such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint

•Must be a team player and work well with others within administration, process development, manufacturing and corrective action and problem solving activities
•Able to effectively handle multiple activities simultaneously
•Successfully function in a cross functional manufacturing environment whilst also able to work effectively with very minimal supervision
•Able to communicate at all levels
•Comfortable and confident to present at high levels within customer environments (if required)
•Able to communicate effectively to internal staff regarding quality issues and expectations to meet and exceed customer requirements
•Able to travel
•Able to support supplier or customer locations for the required period of time
•Conscientious and loyal
•A pro-active, punctual, positive and can-do day to day approach
•Good telephone manor
