Senior Linux Engineer (Ubuntu, Shell, MySQL, Networking ), Media, London - GBP50k - GBP60k
We seek a 3rd Line Linux hands on Infrastructure Support Consultant with experience of supporting and developing Linux and IT Infrastructures and resolving the complex technical issues that can arise.
This is a senior, project-focused role within our engineering team that spans both Linux Administration and Networking.
You will take complete responsibility for the management and deployment of all our network hardware including Firewalls, Switches and physical networks, with telecoms systems being absorbed into the role in the immediate future.
You will work as part of a team of three to deploy and administer Linux OS (Debian), Apache web Servers and MySQL Databases. You will also have limited involvement in with the Windows and VMS-based infrastructures on which some of our existing system run.
You will undertake considerable project work including increasing our use of Cloud-based infrastructure, deploying MPMS networks, research into dynamic scaling, increasing the use of configuration management tools (we use Salt) and deploying enterprise service bus architecture.
What we need from you
A dab hand at Shell Scripting, load balancing, clustering, server builds and administration, you'll be an experienced Linux professional who has worked extensively with Ubuntu or Debian.
Due to immediate projects you'll need some experience in creating virtualized Linux-based environments and a solid understanding of the theory behind them.
MySQL and webservers are going to be critical to this role, so you'll need to have experience of using both, ideally in clustered, high-traffic web environments.
You'll need to have worked with hardware, so Servers, networks, Switches and Routers. We use mainly HP but if your experience lies with Cisco or Checkpoint we just ask that you're happy to cross over.
To find your feet quickly in our Agile and release-driven environment you'll need to have worked with revision control and source code management tools, ideally GIT but we're not adverse to others.
What you'll get from us
you will never be bored. We are in a phase of rapid and exciting change right across IT with a large number of projects rooted in our engineering team, many of which you will have real influence over.
We are implementing service bus architecture, expanding our use of the Cloud and introducing Open Stack. We want you to play a key role in deciding how.
We are big on configuration management and will provide the time and knowledge to make salt a key part of your skill set.
Our hardware and network will be yours to design and implement alongside senior management. We hope you'll get a real kick out of the challenges and independence such a role offers.
We offer a truly collaborative, open and rewarding work environment based on empowerment and mutual respect in a culture driven by making software and release better.
