Job Summary:

We are a small, family run business established in 1979. Due to continued growth, we are looking for a full time Trainee Production Assistant with a determined passion for learning to join our long standing and successful manufacturing production team based in Tyseley. We are keen to bring an ambitious individual into the business to support our future plans for growth. This is a newly created position in the fabrication department.

The Trainee Production Assistant will provide front line support to our window fabricating team by use of hand tools, hand assembly procedures, motorised tools and small components gathering. With training the candidate will fully understand and ensure procedural adherence to all production and QA procedures. No previous experience is necessary as full training will be given, however experience in a manufacturing environment would be an advantage.

The role will generally involve bridging the gap regarding basic production functions to keep the manufacturing line moving. The primary objective of the role is to interact and support the window fabricating team, in line with production schedules and target completion dates. Duties will largely include working with aluminium extrusions, with glass and double glazed units, rubber extrusions, conducting material handling and QA, manual assembly work and calculations to produce parts & products to a very high standard.

This is an interesting and varied role with good prospects for the right person. You will need a good work ethic, intelligent working attitude, ability to pay attention to detail and good organisation skills. Our name within the industry is very important to us, therefore so is our product. With each works order being specific to customer requirements you will need to adopt a line feeder mentality to support the fabrication department carefully alongside our quality standards to ensure that we continue to provide customers with a market leading product and service. As a member of a small team you will need to be flexible and able to manage your time effectively as well as prioritise workload in an efficient manner.

Key Tasks:

  • Quality check, gather and sort extruded aluminium parts, glazing requirements, window fixtures, and small components ready for assembly.
  • Ensure aluminium parts are stored as per the company procedures so as to minimise damage to components.
  • Assemble components and parts specific to works orders to the required descriptions, sizes and any special requirements.
  • Line feed your assembled components, parts and fixtures ready for the window fabricating team.
  • Apply the finishing touches to the product and clean ready for QA.
  • Quality check, inspect and package all finished products ready for dispatch.
  • Maintain paper trail and QA traceability.
  • Be responsible for maintaining the fabrication department and general housekeeping to normal standards.
  • Gain a basic understanding of the company’s product characteristics and range.
  • Assist in modifications, and process improvement programmes where required.
  • Be responsible for stocked product parts and forward stock planning.
  • Carry out other duties of a similar nature consistent with the responsibilities of this job description.
  • Provide offsite labour support to the fitting team when required, whilst learning the fitting role.
  • Build on your understanding of the company’s product range.
  • Be proactive in the raising of potential H&S issues and the development of personal safety awareness.
  • Eventually train on the more specialist and technical window fabrication role using metal saws, drills, motorised tools and working to detailed manufacturing processes.
  • This is a position that involves plenty of lifting, manual work and manipulation tasks and the majority of the working day is spent standing and walking between operating stations and departments.

About You:

  • Have sound communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Be fluent in English (spoken & written).
  • Be flexible and approachable to cope with changing business needs and to work as part of our small team.
  • Be dexterous and quite nimble fingered due to handling and assembly of small components.
  • Have a great attention to detail and good manual and mechanic skills.
  • Be accurate with the ability to concentrate for extended periods of time on routine tasks.
  • Be reliable and conscientious with the ability to work on own initiative often unsupervised.
  • Be a self starter with good self-management qualities and an good work ethic.
  • Be clean and tidy with a positive, professional manner, maintaining the smooth day to day organisation and tidiness of the department.
  • Be willing to learn in order to become skilled in our business and ask for guidance whenever required.
  • Be fully committed to helping achieve the teams goals and objectives.
  • Be able work with metric and imperial measurements.
