Our client is an established information provider based in West Yorkshire. Due to continued expansion, they are currently recruiting for a SQL Database Administrator to join their growing organisation.

SQL DBA Role Purpose

A role in the Support and Development of software, architecture, systems and solutions using SQL Server technologies to ensure that our client continues to provide products and services which meet and exceed their customer requirements. 

The Database Administrator will be responsible for monitoring and improvement of existing databases, ensuring consistent processes and standards are followed using best practice.

SQL DBA Accountability

  • Responsible for the monitoring and tuning of SQL instances
  • Responsible for the business continuity of the SQL Server environment including back up and replication of databases
  • Deployment of development package
  • Responsible for the security of the SQL Server Instances
  • Provide SQL Server design and implementation and input on a range of bespoke software development and customisations
  • Design and deliver solutions for the business utilising SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS
  • Development and communication of consistent processes, code standards, code documentation, version and release control
  • Excellent working knowledge of current and previous versions and editions of SQL Server from 2008 onwards
  • Responsible for planning and implementing upgrades to SQL Server versions
  • Maintaining OLAP Cubes using SSAS

SQL DBA Qualifications & Experience

As a SQL Server Database Administrator you will need to demonstrate that you have a thorough understanding of all aspects of:

  • Product installation and configuration on standalone and clustered environments.
  • Strong  T-SQL skills
  • Good database design, sizing and architecture techniques and utilising best practise approaches
  • Data and system security
  • Performance monitoring, troubleshooting and optimisation to provide guidance and solutions to the business
  • Deployments of SQL Server onto virtual environments
  • Replication, log shipping and mirroring
  • Database maintenance activities
  • Experience in strategy and design with DR
  • Good working knowledge of current and previous versions and editions of SQL Server from 2008 onwards

SQL DBA Additional Skills

  • Designing and developing ETL processes utilising SSIS
  • Designing, developing  and implementing OLAP cubes using SSAS
  • Data warehousing and data mining concepts and techniques
  • Understanding of Multidimensional Expressions (MDX)

SQL DBA Skills & Competencies

  • Evidence of full configuration management and development documentation, to manage code archiving and version releases
  • Facilitate the analysis and design process with evidence of engaging development colleagues to deliver a quality result.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering high quality low maintenance database solutions as perceived by user feedback
  • Evidence of project work item delivery within specified deadlines
  • Evidence of full configuration management and development documentation, to manage code archiving and version releases
  • Request and action plan on the basis of regular customer feedback.
  • Evidence of actively focusing on self-development and increasing knowledge and ability demonstrated by developer certification in specific technology areas.
