A key academic role within a well-established and expanding Language school, which couples the teaching of English language with an experience of active communication and immersion in the local culture. Working mainly with European secondary school groups, the short, varied courses combined with strong connections with the local business and educational community, ensure a positive experience for students
Reporting to the Centre Manager, the Director of Studies will manage the delivery of high quality educational experiences for students.

The key responsibilities of the Director of studies are to;
• Develop academic offering to maintain and promote the company’s product
• Manage day to day operation of academic programme.
• Monitor quality of academic delivery and ensure all programmes meet learning objectives agreed with clients.
• Create teaching schemes of work and supplementary programmes and activities for visiting groups in line with client objectives.
• Manage and coordinate lesson plans created by teachers and plan teaching timetable and locations.
• Prepare and conduct language level tests and allocate students according to ability.
• Plan itineraries for trips and carry out risk assessments for all visits and work placements.
• Ensure offering matches accrediting body criteria; ABLS, British Council etc.
• Design and manage social programme for students.
• Build strong networks with local businesses, social and educational organisations to facilitate work experience placements.
• Manage organisation of all shadowing and work experience placements and manage effectiveness as part of the overall programme.
• Recruit, motivate and manage teaching staff to deliver high quality programmes to students.
• Manage, appraise and support performance delivery of all teachers ensuring high standard is maintained and step in to teach when required to meet programme demands.
• Ensure effective management of teaching budget and administration and report in a timely fashion.
• Plan and deliver workshops for teachers to improve current knowledge and capability.
• Deputise for the Centre Manager when they are absent.
• Process documentation to client to ensure expectations are met and to control programme roll out.
• Ensure all post-course client requirements for validation of the course/work experience are met
• Maintain accurate and complete records for teachers and students
• Provide on-call facility as part of rota throughout duration of each group visit, assist with arrivals and departures.
• Support prospective client funding applications by securing letters of intent from UK companies willing to host visits and learning experiences.
• Prepare information for inspection and accreditation visits, by external organisations such as ABLS, The British Council, ISO etc.

The ideal Director of Studies will be:

• An experienced TEFL teacher, with detailed knowledge and passion for the language teaching and learning sector
• Qualified to Diploma in ELT (DELTA) or TESOL (Level 7 NQS)
• Preferably familiar with and experienced in delivering the requirements of ABLS and/or the British Council accreditation
• Able to manage and lead the TEFL teacher team; through recruitment, motivation and appraisal
• A strong communicator, able to network and preferably with proven success at building and managing corporate relationships
• Willing to facilitate work experience placements, ideally showing previous success at this
• Flexible to attend out of hours departures and arrivals, on a rota basis, occurring at weekends and evenings
• Adaptable to changing priorities and deadlines, balancing multiple projects
• Effective in managing resources and controlling budgets
• Adept at problem solving , thriving within a fast paced environment
• Friendly and approachable, yet purposeful in manner
• Subject to a successful DBS check
• Conversant in a European language, but this is not essential

Working 8.45 - 5.30 you will also receive 30 days holidays per year (including Bank Holidays)
