Graphic Designer - Product & Packaging
Location: Oldham
Salary: 20,000 - 30,000
Bonus: 10% annual performance bonus
My client is one of the UKs leading gift import and distribution companies. The business has been going over 120 years and they have over 7000 active products and launch over 2500 new lines every year to retailers ranging from independent gift shops to national chains such as Argos, Asda, John Lewis, H Samuel. The range is divided in to 18 key brands and 7 product categories including clocks, home accessories, every day and occasion specific gifts, figurines, photo frames and electrical home accessories.
Job Description
Role will include UK and foreign travel (largely the Far East/ China) for project management, market research and sales events e.g. NEC Spring and Autumn Fair
On a day to day basis this individual designs and presents multiple, simultaneous product design projects from brief and conception through to the ordering and approval of production samples and within a defined timeframe and to defined product target costs and launch dates/ project completion dates
Manages and defines programmes of project work/ brand development that deliver multiple products in a similar style or theme defined by a brand manager or the Head of Product Development
Demonstration of thorough analysis of range commerciality and assessment of market opportunities in the creation of complete concepts across multiple product categories and suppliers
The role will encompass management of the communication and relationships with artwork sources (internal or external) and suppliers/ factories unfamiliar existing product ranges, packaging or product concepts
Requirements
Logical thinker with attention to detail who can interpret and/ or develop a project brief quickly, creatively and accurately and who would complete thorough research about the subject and analysis of commercials as part of design activities
Energy and passion for all fields of design including graphics, product and illustration and an interest in working and improving their skills across all these areas
Experience and passion for the gift and home accessory market with an interest, in illustrative product, packaging or brand development across gift, greeting cards or home accessory products including clocks
Design based Degree or Masters Degree
The individual must have substantial experience working with Adobe design programmes including Photoshop and illustrator along with PowerPoint, In-design and others.
Experience in illustrative computer and non-computer based pattern, character and branded product and/ or packaging design with a presentable portfolio of work
Experience preferred in working with and the development of style guides and brand plans
