Classic ASP (we use JScript, but VBScript skills are transferable)

As a Web Developer, you will create functionality to deliver unrivalled customer experience to allow us to take full advantage of the opportunities available.
Their current system is programmed in classic ASP (although there are plans to embark on a new system in the next year) so it’s vital you have excellent core programming skills.
Roles and responsibilities
Website functionality
- To program front and back end additional functionality
- Help maintain and upgrade existing website code: custom e-commerce software written in ASP Jscript. To have the ability to work with and improve/extend existing code in an efficient manner given current conventions and shared code libraries available.
- To be responsible for integrating newly designed features or complete pages from the graphic designer, delivered in XHTML/CSS/graphics, and create ASP code to produce the dynamic functionality required.
- To design and develop new areas of functionality including such tasks as data integration with other web partners through (order/product) import and exports, integrate with third party payment processors, create additional back office reporting features, improve customer experience by customizing product interaction possibilities and checkout flow. To be responsible for both database and application layers of code.
- To be able to troubleshoot and resolve browser specific display or scripting bugs as reported by users and customers.
- To identify code or conventions that could be improved with greater efficiency or stability while performing everyday tasks.
- Testing the website to discover issues with code being deployed by yourself or others.
- Contribute to IT meetings and making suggestions to help resolve issues identified.
- Identifying unreported issues and raising the appropriate action depending on the situation.
- Contribute to the ongoing development of the site, including introducing new technologies and identifying where they could help improve our system or add addition facilities.
Network support
- Setting up new users and managing account permissions.
- Resolving internal network issues.
- Investigating and resolving issues with our live webservers and load-balancer.
- Helping maintain our SQL server database.
- Managing Microsoft exchange to setup new mailboxes and making changes to the configuration as required.
The market has changed hugely in the last 14 years and this companies challenge is to stand out in a market that is hugely competitive. As such, they are constantly looking for new ways to improve our website and add functionality that ultimately improves the customer experience.
The last 12 months have seen a large increase in the number of products made in-house and the target is the increase the range year on year offering unique products to our customers. Recently invested in a 3D printing machine and product development has just begun.
