Connect44 is looking for Legal counsel (UK experienced)

LOCATION:

The role will be based in our Reading office but may be required to travel to other UK locations as specified from time to time.

The Role

  • The position will report to the Head of Legal of
  • UK & Ireland. The role is for a lawyer to join an existing team of 7 lawyers at
  • UK office. The primary function of the role is to provide general in-house legal services to the R&D function within UK & Ireland. Legal support to other business function and other Group Companies will also be required as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Advise on compliance with business practices, policies, procedures and law
  • Design and implement internal controls, policies and procedures to assure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Identify, analyse and evaluate risks and suggest appropriate solutions to mitigate risks
  • Provide support to company secretarial work and provide advice on corporate governance
  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, procurement contracts, R&D agreements, cooperation agreements, Horizon2020 Consortium Agreements, NDAs and other major/non-standard agreements
  • Localise and develop model standard agreements/clauses, precedents
  • Respond to adhoc queries from other departments within providing appropriate solutions
  • Responsible for overall legal support to specific lines of business
  • Liaison with various business practices, commercial managers and contract specialists
  • Work closely with other lawyers throughout
  • Provide training and updates to other departments as necessary
  • Implementing legal policies and business practices
  • Interface with selected external lawyers as required
  • Participate in European-wide or Global-wide initiatives as required

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 3 years PQE in either private practice or in-house
  • Minimum 2.1 degree and excellent academics
  • Experience in the R&D and/or ICT industry preferred
  • High-level legal drafting skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Creative thinking and problem solving
  • Strong commercial sense
  • Ability to perform under intense pressure
  • Ability to multi-task and work according to defined priorities
