Thales is looking for a Systems Engineer to support a major Air Traffic Management (ATM) delivery programme to the UK MOD. Thales, in conjunction with its Partner, will deliver a capability upgrade that will allow the Customer, to provide the MOD with ATM Services for a period of 22 years.

The Systems Engineer will be responsible for solution compliance for sub-systems in the overall solution and facilitating the overall solution compliance and ensure technical consistency during the transition period (change from current capability to new capability).

The sub-systems are in the domains of sensors, communications and networks. There is a requirement for performance modelling of sub-system and systems performance via standard Thales tools. This will require the appointed Systems Engineer to provide support to the PDA to ensure the successful delivery and integration of the technical solutions. The role will require significant UK and transnational Thales relationship skills in a co-working environment with the Partner.

The scope of Thales delivery covers the provision of integrated surveillance assets including static, deployed and other radar systems, communications equipment, network capability and centralised ATM capability.

The role will be broad in technical coverage and successful implementation of the system architecture will be a primary aspect of the delivery.

The Thales Partnership proposes to deliver this capability upgrade through a joint Prime Contract Management Office, based in the Southampton area. The joint team will be referred to as the Asset Provision Provider (APP).

The role will report to the Thales Marshall Project PDA and be responsible to the Thales ATM (UK) Technical Director for technical integrity.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

To be responsible for the implementation of the allocated sub-systems of the Thales scoped asset provision for Marshall

Perform sub-system requirements traceability from the stated customer needs via the contractual requirements documents needs to overall integrated solution. This includes the integration and performance assessments in the context of the overall Marshall system

Co-ordinate with other technical inputs to ensure system solution compliance

Lead the integration, validation, verification of the successful sub-system implementation

Lead the implementation of the appropriate sub-systems solutions within the Thales supply

Actively manage technical risks of the appropriate sub-systems

Agrees technical specifications for sub-system procurements and actively reviews solutions

Propose and agree modification of technical supply if required to meet commitments

Technically monitor sub-contractors, ensuring flow through of customer technical requirements and technical compliance

Report the technical progress and performance of the project

Set requirements for Project/Engineering management and planning activities

Ensure a relevant aspects of the Engineering Management Plan is completed and reviewed on a regular basis for the sub-systems and integration and testing of those sub-system

Participate in the sub-system supplier's technical reviews as required

Manage all technical stakeholders; ensuring strong communications and understanding is established and maintained with all stakeholders

Be responsible for the SAT, Flight check (where required) and delivery of Product Assessment Document (Performance)

Ensure that solution meets all appropriate Environmental, HSE and certification requirements (with specialist support)

Ensure all the technical activities undertaken comply with the relevant Thales Chorus processes

Essential

Proven technical leadership within a Matrix style organisation

Customer focused approach whilst recognising the need for governance

Strong technical understanding of the customer requirements, the offer and the system solution

Knowledge of a range of surveillance solutions (covering systems engineering [performance architecture and implementation], sensors, display, monitoring, networking and communications aspects including centralised operation)

Experience:

Desirable

Performance modelling of surveillance sensors, navaids and comms sub-systems and the fully integrated system

Performance assessment of deployed sub-systems (ie use of Thales AGATE tool use)

Knowledge of ATC standards

Working across national and transnational boundaries

Experience of system trade-off's methods (optimisation)

Essential

Engineering qualification and/or suitable experience

Knowledge of systems engineering principles and practice

Understanding of surveillance, communication and systems integration

Significant client and stakeholder technical liaison

Interface with Customers
