Payroll Services Manager (Accountancy)

On behalf of our Chartered Accountancy client, I am looking for a Payroll Services Manager to manage the payroll services provided to clients.

With payroll clerks spread across our multiple offices located in Devon, providing payroll services to approximately 600 client, you will be responsible for managing and developing the team and this service as well as providing support to the partners and accountants on payroll related queries.

You will have exceptional and detailed knowledge on implementing payroll using Sage Payroll and be fully up to date on payroll and other relevant employment legislation, automatic enrolment legalisation and end of year processes. You will provide full payroll processing cover during staff holiday and absences and will be responsible for the regular billing of our payroll clients.

You will be an experienced people manager, who can successfully and efficiently manage the payroll team. You will be able to carry out regular quality and consistency checks on work produced by payroll clerks and work with them on areas of improvement. You will provide regular updates and internal training sessions to ensure the team are up to date and fully knowledgeable on payroll matters.

You will be confident in meeting with existing clients to discuss their payroll needs, for example when they are approaching their automatic enrolment staging date. You will also be confident in gaining new business for the firm, by one to one meetings with potential clients, seminars to promote our payroll services, working with our marketing assistant to produce articles and promotional material, and through other networking and promotion opportunities.

To be able to carry out these tasks you will need to be able to visit clients and many of our offices.

Core skills
- Up to date with payroll legislation including SMP, SSP, NMW, Holiday pay entitlement, salary sacrifice schemes, redundancy calculations, auto enrolment and CIS.
- Knowledge of how to process international secondments is desirable
- Able to understand new rules and legislation quickly and easily
- Excellent and detailed knowledge of Sage Payroll software is desirable
- Able to process payrolls of all sizes
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Excellent people management skills
- A driver with a valid driving licence and transport
