Our client has proven world class performance and are experts in transfer and progression presswork, welded assemblies, tube manipulation, exhaust bright trim and wire forming. They have developed a particular expertise in Aluminium weld technology and have invested heavily in robotic plant and equipment to fulfil the advancement of lightweight platforms for their customers` vehicles. Through our client’s experience, gained from over 52 years of supplying the automotive industry, they offer complete solutions to their customers.

They are now looking for a Health and Safety Officer to be based in Birmingham , B46.

Main Purpose :
To ensure that all Group Companies comply with the Environmental & Health and Safety policies and procedure as and where necessary in line with all relevant legislation.

Duties and Responsibilities :

• To take a proactive role in providing Directors, Managers and Supervisors with specialist advice, support and guidance regarding H&S and Environmental issues within the Group.
• To play a major role in raising and maintaining awareness of H&S / Environmental issues
• To carry out relevant procedural audits, report findings and carry out / monitor remedial actions.
• To carry out the training and development of employees from Senior Management to Production Operatives via ‘Tool Box’ Talks in H&S related subjects. Carrying out Inductions for new employees etc.
• Carry out H&S Inductions for new employees.
• To provide ‘hands on’ practical assistance with day to day H&S matters across Group sites
• To undertake and control Risk Assessments
• To develop and create H&S systems and procedures in order to help encourage a proactive H&S culture
• To lead Accident / Near Miss reporting and investigations, suggest remedial actions and monitor progress. Collate accident statistics for all Group sites. Lead proactive initiatives to reduce accidents and improve the Health, Safety and welfare of all employees.
• Plan, monitor and review ‘safe systems of work’ procedures in all areas across the Group working in close liaison wit the Group Training Officer.
• Collate all agreed / required Company statistics pertaining to H&S and Environmental issues.
• Maintain the H&S and Environmental Policy and Manual.
• To work closely with Project Teams and Production Personnel as and where neccessary to develop appropriate standards of ‘safe systems’ for new projects / processes / machinery etc. based on current and potential legislation.
• Co-ordinate Noise Surveys
• Carry out COSHH Assessments as and where necessary.
• Control and monitor PPE i.e. ordering / supply / storage / effective usage
• Control First Aid procedures and facilities / oversee ordering of First Aid consumables
• Liaise with HR Dept. on Occupational Health /H&S / Welfare related issues
• Control of Contractors to include Inductions / Procedures / Safe Systems etc.
• Maintaining H&S / Environmental ( ISO14001) policies and procedures
• To deal with general employee H&S matters on a day-to-day basis.
• Prepare monthly H&S and Environmental K.P.I.’s for operational and Board Meetings
• Attendance at weekly Operational Meetings and report back to H.R.D any actions
• Attendance at Health and Safety Committee meetings at Group sites / chair in absence of Operations Director / H.R. Director
• Liaise with Union representatives regarding relevant H&S issues as and where necessary.
• Deal with Employers Liability Claims / Liaison with Liability Adjusters and Insurers
• Weekly / monthly visits to all Group sites.
• Interface with various regulatory bodies such as Health and Safety Executive, Local Authorities and Fire Services etc.
• Monitor / Audit the activities of Fire Wardens across the Group
• Co-ordinate Fire Drills / report on findings / carry out remedial actions.
• Involvement in ‘Waste Management processes and procedures.

COSH, IOSH or NEBOSH qualified with experience of being an authorised Health and Safety Officer within a Manufacturing environment. Must be a car driver as the role will required some travel between sites.

Ideally have worked in a Metal Processing or production environment or Automotive manufacturing or component manufacturing.

Salary 30,000 - 33,000 GBP per annum.
