Act as the System Software Support (SSS) Systems Engineer within the Chinook TLCS programme ensuring that the SSS aspects of the Chinook Electronic Flight Information System (EFIS) and other associated software and firmware systems are appropriately managed and co-ordinated including meeting all technical governance requirements. This role is to act as the Cognizant System Engineer within Boeing Defence UK for Chinook fielded software and firmware. This role will involve working in numerous locations related to the Chinook platform, Odiham, Gosport, Yeovil for example.

Key Skills and Responsibilities:

Support SSS management of planned software upgrades, coordinate, and work effectively with team members from various functions across multiple customers (internal and external) for production and fielded software including:
•Supporting the SSS function through technical management of the relevant major sub-contractors, ensuring that software upgrade deliveries are managed in accordance with the Boeing, customer and regulatory requirements
•Supporting the upfront development, interpretation, and understanding of customer system requirements
•Supporting customer system issue investigation in conjunction with the suppliers and the associated system rigs
•Developing and recommending aircraft software configuration upgrades and product improvements that satisfy customer requirements (Perfective, Corrective and Adaptive change)
•Assist with the development of operator needs using model-based system engineering techniques
•Managing system requirements using the DOORS tool including requirements allocation, verification and validation
•Developing system level Test and Acceptance criteria for software requirements
•Developing Statements of Work (SOW) for software change activities
•Identifying software lifecycle products required to be managed and updated as part of the software upgrade programmes
•Identifying and specifying software certification products required as part of the software development lifecycle
•Working with other functions to determine the complete lifecycle requirements and ensure those functions are engaged and involved in the technical solution estimates and solution implementation
•Identifying software process improvements within the overall management process of MoD Customer, Boeing and the software suppliers Supporting Software Working Groups and participating in software content management panels in recommending future release content
•Identifying risks, issues and opportunities and developing mitigation plans
•Developing/using meaningful metrics to evaluate software support project status
•This candidate should possess strong communication skills, technical competency, and skills with project management concepts/tools.
•This position requires experience in the areas of software development and integration familiarity with real time embedded processing, requirements, design and test of complex software packages and the demonstrated ability to tailor current software development processes to increase efficiency of the software development life cycle.
•Familiarity with RTCA DO-178B requirements, design, code analysis, and testing is essential as is familiarity with RTCA DO-254 compliance standards.

Qualifications and Experience:

This role is suitable for a systems engineer who has experience of software development activities based upon the RTCA DO-178B/DO-254 standards rather than a software engineer who is cognizant of systems engineering methodologies. Education is required to degree level in an engineering/technical discipline with a Chartered Engineer qualification being highly desirable.

Prior experience working with UK Defence Standards is viewed as a positive discriminator for this position. The role will have significant Customer, supplier and wider Boeing interface and therefore a person who is diplomatic whilst being strong minded is required. Some UK and US travel is expected.
