We have an exciting position available in our Psychology and Education journals team for a Senior / Journal Publishing Manager. The team is a vibrant and successful group that maintains and develops new partnerships with some of the world’s leading psychological and educational organisations.

The Journal Publishing Manager Role:

The successful candidate will need to take independent responsibility for the management, including editorial and financial development of approximately 20 – 25 journals in Psychology and Education, with support from a Journal Publishing Assistant. The post holder will work within a subject team, comprising editorial, marketing and digital product management (MDPM), production and membership colleagues. The role will also support the Senior Commissioning Editor in commissioning titles (both new starts and take-overs) and developing new sources of revenue across the psychology and education journals programme and will line manage one (Senior) Journal Publishing Assistant.

The successful Journal Publishing Manager will have:

> Journal publishing experience to include managing a list of academic journals, including those not proprietary to the publisher and fronting editor and editorial board meetings

> An understanding of the key issues/debates in academic journal publishing, including Open Access and the shift to electronic publishing

> Experience of attending conferences

> Knowledge of the commercial environment for journals and what contributes to improved profitability. 

> Knowledge of the journal publishing process

> An understanding of the common financial models to quickly assess the impact of specific income or expenditure decisions and draft journal budgets

> Experience of negotiating and closing contract signings or renewals

> Excellent communication skills

> Strong organisational and time management skills

> A high standard of written and spoken English

> Experience of working with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook

> Education to a degree level or equivalent

> A knowledge of Psychology and/or Education would be an advantage
