Job Purpose

As part of the commitment to transformation, the IT services department are looking for a hands on technical manager who managing a small team of application specialists will help drive the delivery and support of key applications that will add value to the learning, teaching, research and operational activities of the University.

Your team will be responsible for the design, installation, patching, upgrading and configurations of all corporate applications across the University including but not limited to HR, Finance, Student Systems, Estates and Administrative applications to help ensure continuous improvement of these services.

Job Responsibilities

As a technical manager you will act as a subject matter expert for corporate applications, providing guidance to stakeholders across the University and within IT services to ensure the delivery of fit for purpose solutions that will ensure high quality, available, reliable and secure services are continually delivered.

Working with the wider IT team you will look to developer robust strategies implementing processes, standards and metrics to ensure new and existing services transitioned in to the live environment are fully tested and continuous improvement of these services is in place.

Core Skills

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification/relevant experience
  • Experience of working within a Prince 2 and ITIL environment ideally with relevant qualifications
  • Substantial experience of acting in a management or team lead capacity to help drive the delivery and support a broad range of applications (Including HR, Finance, CRM, Student Systems, Estates etc.)
  • Experience of key stakeholder management with the ability to develop good working relationships and an appreciation of understanding a mixture of technological issues
  • Proven technical background in applications support and management with experience of designing, patching, upgrading and configuring applications including standardised technologies (Windows and Linux Servers, IIS, Apache, Citrix, TCP/IP)
  • Experience of database services including Oracle, SQL Server 2005/2008 and MySQL
  • Ability to identify, manage and resolve conflicts while building successful business relationships across a range of stakeholder groups

Communication

  • You will be a self-motivated and dynamic individual with the ability to engage with and influence others, whilst maintaining collaborative working relationships across both the IT and non IT departments
  • Demonstrating excellent written and verbal communication skills, you will be motivated towards the success of the project, taking innovative approaches to help achieve the organisational strategy.
