We are looking for a well established Network Designer, with good industry experience from an authorative position, to be a leader in the design and deployment of a network with one of the UK's most sought-after employers.
Client Details
Our client is a very highly regarded global Defence and Military organisation who are now looking for a Lead Network Designer to head up their network design team in their Surrey office.
Description
The Lead Network Designer will be a member of a team of senior technical engineers led by the infrastructure Chief Architect with overall responsibility for the network design, requirements compliance and customer acceptance for the delivery of a major network development stream.
Key responsibilities:
- Liaising with key stakeholders in the customer and technical authority community to establish, understand, and deliver against, the requirements.
- Ensuring consistency between the design for this project and other development streams wherever possible.
- Negotiation and agreement with customers, of design change proposals and investigations.
- Authorization (authorized for use/implementation/issue) of technical reports and specifications.
- Involvement in and intervention on systems issues and matters arising on this delivery in the interests of improving quality, consistency and compatibility.
- Preparation and technical approval of design certificates.
- Support to design reviews in accordance with LCM governance.
- Support to Customer design reviews, Customer working groups and Customer Safety & Configuration Control boards.
- Working to an agreed schedule and budget.
Profile
The Lead Network Designer should have a proven track record in systems design and be able to demonstrate these essential Skills:
- Extensive engineering experience.
- Current Juniper JNCIP or CISCO CCNP certification (minimum)
- Thorough understanding of switched architecture and its workings (DNS, DHCP, Security, IP Switching/Routing, HTTP, VPN, etc.)
- Thorough understanding of Local Area Networking (LAN) and Wide Area Networking (WAN) technologies
- Requirements shaping and management.
- Clear evidence of achievement in a Commercially complex environment operating successfully with multiple stakeholders.
The following attributes would also be beneficial:
- Windows Server 2003 & 2008; SQL experience a plus
- Other operating systems including VMware ESXi Server 4/5, Linux (SUSE/RedHat).
- Working knowledge of various VMware tools.
- Working knowledge of SAN Technologies.
Job Offer
The salary for this role is between GBP55,000-GBP60,000 depending on experience and our client offers a competitive benefits package. Flexible hours can also be negotiated and Smart Working forms part of the package.
