Support Engineer - Faslane
Primary Purpose of the Role
An opportunity has arisen for a Support Engineer in Faslane, providing engineering support to the Thales mine hunting Sonar Systems deployed by the Royal Navy. Effective front line support is key to customer satisfaction and identifies Thales as a key market leader in Sonar Systems.
This opportunity will provide an enthusiastic, self-motivated engineering biased individual with an opportunity to further develop their understanding of Thales and Sonar Systems employed within the RN and export customers.
Principal Accountabilities
Accountable to the Engineering Support Manager for all aspects of the job.
Needs to be able to cultivate good working relations with the customer and establish good communications paths within the Thales teams.
Needs to be able to deal directly with customers and establish good professional and ethical relations with all representatives at the appropriate level.
Needs to establish sound working relationships with all stakeholders.
The post holder will be responsible for his or her own wellbeing under the Health and Safety guidelines of Thales and contractor sites as appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
To provide support to the Support Engineering team through:
Achievement of KPI's for OPDEFS and contracted delivery dates in accordance with programme timescales.
Conduct of front-line support to the customer.
Conduct of fault finding, diagnosis and testing.
Offsite support for mine hunting sonar including defect rectification and acceptance trials at sea, and in harbour and in dock.
Reporting of failures, visit reports and respective updates/analysis (FRACAS).
Writing handbook in-feed and handbook amendments.
Responses for customer queries.
Support to other sonar systems.
Timely, clear communications to the Engineering Support Manager, Design Authority, Equipment Project Managers and to the customer as applicable.
Accurate and timely maintenance of records and report generation.
Identification of personal and professional development growth.
Development of skills outside core area of work.
Compliance with all export control rules and regulations.
Identification of opportunities either within or outside of core areas of expertise.
Other activities as specified by the Engineering Support Manager.
Skills
Comprehensive working knowledge of mine hunting sonar systems.
Ability to manage and/or undertake Sonar support activities, predominantly electronic/electrical, but some mechanical/hydraulic.
Use of engineering procedures and processes.
Good inter-personal skills, self organised and motivated.
Ability to work with minimum supervision.
Good general background in design or support electronic/electrical engineering.
Qualifications
Recognised, relevant technical qualification, to HNC level or similar.
A good working knowledge of engineering concepts and principles.
