Due to continued growth, Thales Land and Air Systems are looking for a full time, permanent Manufacturing Engineer to join their long standing and successful Manufacturing Team based in Basingstoke. This role would ideally suit and experienced Manufacturing Engineer, Production Engineer or Process Engineer with a relevant qualification who has a solid understanding of manufacturing process and the ability to implement improvements and resolve problems in the process through root cause analysis. Working within a team of highly motivated and likeminded individuals, this is an exciting opportunity that will challenge and reward in equal measure.

Role Purpose:
The Manufacturing Engineer role is centred around establishing, maintaining and continually improving the processes, strategies and policies for the manufacture of products within the business unit, including the processes within the supply chain, which form a large part of the manufacturing process.

You will also ensure the business is aware, and in a position to employ, the most appropriate technologies for the Design for Manufacture (DFM) of our products.

Responsible to:
Manufacturing Methods Manager who sets the day-to- day priorities and tasks.

Responsible for:
1. Ensuring that methods and means of manufacture are discussed and reviewed throughout the product life cycle and product process to ensure efficient and cost effective manufacture for both in-house and sub-contract manufacture that complies with the Design to Unit Production Cost (DTUPC)

2. Pursue a philosophy of continuous improvement in all aspects of M.E.D. work, to enable cost and lead-time reduction.

3. Determine the most economical method of manufacturing and assembling products. Produce Work Instruction sheets (WIS) with routings, showing the methods and sequence of operations throughout the life cycle of a product from prototype through to the development, up to and including evaluation manufacture and main production.

4. Ensure that facilitisation, and production is achieved within schedule limits and costs defined by the respective programme

5. Ensure that all procedures and instructions are performed in conformance with all Health and Safety requirements.

6. Ensure through best practice that a high level of product quality is maintained.

7. Management of defects by the use of Failure Incident Reporting and through the application of liaison engineering. Promoting a fast and expedient solution to any manufacturing problem encountered and that immediate and corrective actions are undertaken.

8. Carry out investigations on product and process equipment and produce machine specifications. When needed financial justifications for capital expenditure shall be identified and soundly reasoned.

9. Understand the range and ability of all available software tools and the IT. system and to promote their benefits throughout the business.

Experience and Behaviours Required:

Essential:
Experience working as a Manufacturing Engineer or Production engineer
Extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes
Experience in Root Cause Analysis
Experience in Process Improvement
Ability to identify, analyse and resolve problems within the manufacturing cycle
Experience implementing improvements in manufacturing processes
The ability to produce proposals and design and build manufacturing processes for new product lines
Strong Interpersonal skills
Sound Communication skills
Team Player

Desirable:
HND/HNC or equivalent in Production Engineering or Manufacturng Engineering
Tool Making qualification
Graudate in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering
