Our client is one of the UK's leading contract manufacturers, specialising in personal care and are looking to recruit a Planning Assistant to support the Planning Manager to provide short term working schedules for both the manufacturing and production departments of the business. These schedules need to align and take into account raw material & component deliveries, customer required by dates and efficiencies within the company.
MAIN DUTIES
To support the Planning Manager to maintain, align and provide short term working schedules for both the manufacturing and production departments.
To communicate imminent plan changes to the relevant departments.
To control and manage any short term works orders changes.
To communicate any short term overtime requirements to the Planning Manager or Directors.
To ensure the production and manufacturing plans best reflects the Customer s requirements in conjunction with the company's efficiencies.
To Plan jobs in line with the company's planning procedures
To Ensure a Right First Time approach is adopted wherever possible for the planning of jobs.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR RESOURCES
Responsibility for the integrity of the working schedules for both the manufacturing and production departments for which accuracy and confidence is critical.
Responsible for the efficiency within the production and manufacturing plans.
Responsible where possible to ensure the utilisation of residual stocks to minimise write offs.
Responsible for high lighting any short or long term capacity issues.
Responsible for the effective use of overtime planning
Sage Line 500 - preferred but not necessary as training will be given
Preactor Planning - preferred but not necessary as training will be given
MS Excel Spreadsheets - Advanced
Good general IT understanding
Knowledge of UPL Manufacturing and Packing areas would be advantageous but not essential
A minimum of 3 years' experience within a busy office environment
Excellent administrative and communication skills.
Educated to A level standard.

COMMUNICATIONS AND CONTACTS
The job holder will need to have excellent communication skills both internally with all departments and externally when required to deal directly with Customers.
A high standard of communication via all media (verbal, written and electronic) is essential.
Accuracy of information and attention to detail is paramount as miss-information could lead to confusion, errors and/or downtime in either the Production or Manufacturing departments.
It is essential that changes to the Manufacturing and Packing plans are communicated in a timely and accurate manner.
The information supplied by the job holder is of utmost importance and as such requires a high level of concentration and accuracy
Negotiation skills are required when dealing with customers and internal service providers when agreeing timings for production.
DECISION MAKING
The job holder should work within the defined rules of the Planning system.
The job holder will make decisions on a daily basis; some decisions may require the input from other departments.
The job requires coordination & prioritisation of customer requirements on both delivery dates and quantities
The decision making process of the Planning Assistant can have a direct influence on the company's service to the Customer as well as impacting potentially on stock levels and work loads of other departments.
Incorrect planning of a job from the outset could lead to inefficiencies, rework and customer dissatisfaction.
