The Job:
Our client in the Vale of Glamorgan area are looking for an experienced Learning Support Assistant, ideally with previous SEN experience. You should have experience of working with challenging behaviour and have the interpersonal skills needed to effectively communicate with staff and students. The position will be to provide one to one support to a Key Stage 2 boy with Social and Emotional Behaviour Disorder. The young boy does not respond well to female support staff and exhibits sexually provocative behaviour, and so the successful applicant will have to be male in order to provide effective maximum care and support. This support role will be challenging, and verbal and maybe physical abuse may be encountered, however full restraint training will be provided along with a thorough induction program, including behaviour plans to support the child in question.
The School:
This school caters specifically for children who display challenging behaviour - most children here are statemented with SEBD or EBD, and other additional learning needs. This charity funded special school is a community formed from their different provisions for children and young people with behavioural, social and emotional difficulties. The age of pupils range from Key Stage 2 upward to Key stage 4, and the school also has a capacity for Further Education students 18years plus. Classrooms are taught on level of ability rather than age, and so some classes can be of mixed age group.
The Child:
The school has a wide catchment area, encompassing pupils from a variety of backgrounds and with varying levels of difficulties and ability. The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of differentiation within the classroom, and also an emphasis on behaviour management and inclusive learning. They will also have a strong passion and enthusiasm for education, and a firm but fair approach to rewards and consequences for behaviour. The right candidate will be able to motivate and engage pupils in their learning. This position is for a male one to one support, but some classes will be in with other children from the school.
