This is a fantastic opportunity to join the UK's largest specialised digital agency in the automotive industry. They build, manage and market online strategies for more than half of the UK's Top 200 motor retailers and many of the world's leading manufacturers.

An exciting opportunity has opened up to join their Devops team as a Junior Devops Engineer.

Candidates for this role will exhibit a keen interest in Linux operating systems and will have a strong understanding of administering and maintaining software on a web-based, virtualised Linux environment.

Responsibilities:

- Implementing manual software deployments via Git and Subversion, and via Salt Stack
- Managing DNS records for existing customers and setting up DNS for new clients; debugging client DNS issues (missing entries, etc.)
- Initialising database backups/restores and executing SQL queries for development teams
- Configuring and scheduling cron tasks to automate scripts and common tasks
- Assisting users with questions and technical tasks such as moving files, processing scripts, searching log files
- Modifying application configuration files and deploying via Salt Stack
- Writing Bash and Python scripts to automate common tasks

Required Skills/Experience:

- Commercial experience or exposure to Linux-based operating systems and server environments - including knowledge of basic terminal commands, configuration of server instances and packages for Production environments.
- Knowledge of distributed versioning systems (Git) and/or client-server versioning systems (SVN)
- Knowledge and basic grasp of OOP programming and structure for assisting with debugging web applications within a LAMP stack or similar
- Basic skills and knowledge in networking and related activities

Desirable Skills/Experience:

- Active interest in software automation (TDD, Infrastructure as Code)
- Exposure to/knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and associated Devops products and services (CloudFormation, Elastic Beanstalk, Opsworks)
- Experience of Redhat/CentOS Linux operating systems
- Experience with Apache/Nginx webservers
- Experience running MySQL/PostGres servers; managing, querying and manipulating databases
- Knowledge or experience of running and maintaining NoSQL databases (Mongo, DynamoDb, etc.)
- Familiarity with Perl/Python/Bash server-side scripting languages
- Knowledge or experience of tools used in Infrastructure as Code (Salt Stack, Puppet, Chef)
- Knowledge or commercial experience of managing DNS records, modifying and debugging DNS
- Knowledge or commercial experience configuring software firewalls
- Knowledge of crontab and configuring crons
