Application Support Analyst/3rd Line Support- Unix - Java- J2EE - SQL- Oracle

ROLE

Application Support Analyst required working for an eCommerce digital agency responsible for the delivery and support of a large number of high profile retail websites. We are looking for individuals who have technical experience in this arena, are customer focused and are looking to expand their technical ability to make their mark in a diverse and expanding team.

This role will require working on an on-call rota addressing issues out of hours.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The successful applicant will work with other highly skilled consultants to support clients within a Java/J2EE and IBM WebSphere Commerce environment.  

The main responsibilities are:

  • To perform daily checks & a variety of support tasks within the support team
  • To pick up incidents, investigate root cause and follow their life cycle through to resolution
  • Take a pro-active approach to the all incidents and problems raised
  • Ensure customers are updated and tickets are managed with the correct level of information
  • Interact with surrounding support teams to consult on issues
  • Address a variety of ad-hoc queries and run various reports
  • Demonstrate ownership at all times to the customer and within the team
  • Data interface/scheduled job monitoring with their associated issue resolution to ensure that all systems are running issue free
  • Engage in scheduled work to undertake system upgrades & deployments
  • Mentoring more junior members of the team

Candidates will be working in a team and being mentored in all operational aspects of managing the production, staging and test systems for clients.

Experience

Ideally the successful candidate will have a good understanding of the architecture and issues about operating solutions in a web multi-tiered environment and have knowledge/experience across most of the following:

  • UNIX flavours, Solaris, AIX, Linux, Windows
  • Scripting
  • Java
  • SQL
  • JDBC and SQL skills
  • Oracle or IBM DB2 Databases
  • Exposure to Java applications
  • Unix Scripting (eg Perl and bash)
  • Excellent all-round communication skills
  • Good customer service skills and a good understanding of customer focus and updates
  • Exposure to ITIL to include incident and problem management is beneficial
  • Good time manager and able to multi-task
  • Excellent delivery focus and commitment
  • Team player, able to learn/adapt quickly and take responsibility

Should the candidate have any experience in the products below (or similar Web Server, Application Server or Middleware products) that would be a nice to have':

  • IBM Http WebServer or Windows IIS
  • IBM WebSphere Application Server, Tomcat
  • IBM WebSphere Commerce
  • IBM MQ Series

As a minimum we would expect the candidate to have had experience in Scripting on one of the operating systems mentioned above as well as exposure to DB2 or Oracle and having supported to some level a web multi-tiered system of some technology.

Microsoft office skills essential and FTP/SCP familiarity will be useful.
