Essex Cares are looking for people who really care about people in their community and want to support them to live independently in their own homes.
Essex Cares are looking to recruit an Occupational Therapist to work within our Reablement team. Reablement is a service which delivers a period of care and support to customers in their own homes to help prevent hospital admissions or following a spell in hospital. The service offers much more than standard domiciliary care; our team of support assistants, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Nurses working together with customers to develop skills and new ways of coping at home. After our support their independence is increased and on-going care needs are reduced or eradicated completely.
The role of an Occupational Therapist within Essex Cares will include:
• Support front line worker with promoting use of equipment
• Manage complex cases works alongside support workers to promote Reablement programmes,
• Liaise with community and hospital OT's to handover cases.
• Provide 'bite size ' training for support workers on specific health conditions, and how they manage/work with them, also provides Reablement Training to all new staff.
• Carrying out specialist assessments on behalf of the commissioner, analysing activities, using specific therapeutic methods to enable people with impairments to have more control and autonomy, embracing the Social Model of disability.
• Promoting purposeful activity and meaningful occupations utilising therapeutic tools in the promotion of general well-being.
• Advise, mentor and support other staff in accordance with Essex Cares policy including My Performance guidelines and Home Assessment Practice Standards in line with CQC regulations.
• Work to ensure any shortfalls in performance or poor professional practise are identified and addressed.
• Contribute to and implement service strategies, which ensure the continuing development of the service in meeting the needs of adults and other service user groups if necessary.

Knowledge and qualifications:
• A nationally recognised Occupuational Therapy qualification e.g. Dip C.O.T or BsC Honours in Occupational Therapy.
• HPC registration.
• Any appropriate qualification recognised by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
• Driver with full UK licence.
• At least two or more years' experience working as an Occupational Therapist within a Social care setting or three years post-graduate experience in other fields.
• Knowledge and practise of applying OT skills to the principles relating to social inclusion, promoting independence, and considering aspirations and choices of individual
• Ability to contribute creatively and effectively to service development and planning.
• Knowledge of causes and effects of impairments.
• Knowledge of implementing and evaluating enablement programmes and ensuring evidence based practise is applied.
• Able to think clearly, creatively and problem solve in all aspects of the role.
